| JACK Calver, Ryan Lane, Billy Palfrey and Ben Steer will leave Argyle at the end of their contract this summer. The four former apprentices were retained on a professional deal last summer as part of a new development structure at Home Park, although they did not graduate to Derek Adams' first-team squad. Derek said: "We were pleased that we were able to help Jack, Ryan, Billy and Ben progress their careers for another year but we will not be offering them a further contract. "We thank them for their contribution to the club, on and off the pitch, over the years, and wish them every success in their future ventures.

| waste of time contracts
hope they dont repeat this again with the new crop who are lucky to have a pro contract offer. i rather they loan them out to a club where they will play competitive football and not cornish sides all the time if they are not ready for first team consideration yet. |

| It's not just about competitive football. You've either got it or you haven't and people didn't miss Mason's ability. Obviously the present manager doesn't think they do, especially now the club has moved up a division. Sometimes managers get it wrong, but it's not a good sign to be dumped like this.
I've always thought if you actually get signed up to a pro club, and are actually up for it as a career, which by the way, not all youngsters are, then you really are not that great if you don't progress to a first team squad in the fourth division by the time you're 17/18. Talent supported by proper coaching and fitness regimes should produce results if you're any good.. Some develop late, but that's another matter, and are often those that come in from a non league background. |

| It's apparent that Adams has no faith or trust in younger local players but then neither did Sheridan. Why is this?
Is it their short termism or the lack of talent and desire or is it poor coaching?
The recruitment and development of gifted youngsters pales in comparison to Exeter.
Something's not right and hasn't been for a few years now. |

| 'Development' of 'gifted' youngsters costs money, sighing a more experienced player on a free is, er, free...... |

Something's not right and hasn't been for a few years now. Wasnt shezza lynched by the plebs and herald for not playing our youth products? i agree with your point. Exeters youth setup is by far better than ours and its about time our club looked at what they are doing (lts face it brent isnt going to invest money needed although thats not the only thing needed) and take notes. |

Exeters youth set up is based on being able to sell lightweight tippy tappy midfielder to mugs like Swansea that end up not playing a single game for them! |
