| I was wrong.....Ran out of fuel. Pilot had option to refuel in Bogata but declined believing they had enough |

| Shocking what a waste of life for somethink as simple as running out of fuel..surely its the first thing youd check before takeoff that you had enough to get you to A to B..what was the pilot thinking even in doubt fill the bloody thing up |

IATA have pretty strict regs on the reserve fuel they should have been carrying. Its shocking penny pinching negligence on the part of the airline. |

| The Glasgow helicopter crash was caused by a stuck gauge which gave a faulty reading.
It must be calculated by computers surely?
Edited to add (BBC news)that a preliminary report says that the pilot was warned about the fuel load. In which case how the hell was he allowed to take off. And it also says that the plane was told to circle whilst another plane leaking fuel had to land first.
So that's the pilot, the airline and air traffic control seemingly culpable. They'll probably end up blaming the weather. |

| It was despicable penny pinching. There was barely enough fuel to complete the journey, the airline bears full responsibility,.
I was going to Gatwick the other day and the flight was ahead of schedule, Gatwick is the worlds busiest single runway airport. We were preparing to land but then the plane lurched suddenly into the sky, there was another plane on the runway but thats why you need fuel reserves |

Sometimes ''all up weight'' is the problem. Max take-off weight is sum of aircraft weight + baggage + passengers (they use a set figure for passengers and hope they haven't got 50 porkyfenwa's flying) + fuel. In general only fuel is variable so if you can't trade passengers for more fuel then you flight plan to pop in somewhere en-route for gas. There is a large airfield on Greenland? which is a gas stop if the pilots crossing the pond need a quick suck to top up! (should I rephrase that?) I think the rules also include a fuel state on arrival that allows for 2 approaches, divert and 2 approaches at diversion. Running out of fuel is unforgiveable - unless you get a leak while flying over the Atlantic. Air Transat Flight 236 is worth a wiki read or youtube view. |

| The technical side of flying is a complete unknown for most of us, I remember on one occasion just before take off at Hong Kong when we had an announcement for all passengers at the rear of the plane to move to the empty seats at the front of the plane just for take off and then we could move back to our booked seats when at cruising height, I thought at the time it was a wind up, but it was later explained as something to do with weight ratio and other techy stuff. |

| Well let me show off.... going to Andros (Bahamas) passengers were weighed on a set of scales, fatties to the front..... I was in the back :-) |

Always fancied the Bahamas, never got round to it and never likely to now. |

That's when you know the take-off weight limits are being s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-------d. |
