....to initially appoint Strachan? Yep, me too. Let's be honest, Strachans a pretty crap manager. Apart from Celtic, I don't think he's won more than he's lost at any club he's managed. That said, Southgate is living proof that you don't necessarily have to have achieved anything domestically, just be in the right place at the right time and you may get the gig. |

| Strachan will obviously cop the flak but isn't the real problem that their players just aren't good enough?
They're like an international Sunderland: avoiding complete disaster is as much as they can hope for.
It'd be an interesting experiment to swap Chris Coleman with Strachan. Coleman has a bunch of decent players to work with and has worked wonders but could he do that with Scotland's players? I doubt it: where's the Scottish Gareth Bale equivalent for starters? |

I doubt it: where's the Scottish Gareth Bale equivalent for starters? Well yeah, quite obviously his pool of players aren't great. My point was that his CV as a domestic manager pointed to him personally being rather shit - he's simply carried that form into his International managerial career. Coleman is a bit of a curve-ball. Again, domestically, his record is every bit as underwhelming as Wee Gord. But he's been able to harness the obvious World Class talent of Bale. Then he's taken the considerably creative abilities of Joe Allen, Aaron Ramsey, and defensively Ashley Williams, and build a very solid team around those key players. In short, take a crap manager and put him in charge of a crap Scottish squad, and you get a team that will probably not come even close to qualifying in a group that is, England aside, very poor. I'll drink to that. |

| Classic Colemanballs from Glenn Hoddle on commentary last night about the Scotland defence; "They're like sitting ducks standing there". |
