| Thoughts on old buffalo head.....can't do any worse than past managers I suppose, bar failing to qualify. |

| Been bang average at lots of clubs and never won anything of note, so seems the perfect choice. Lets hope there's a recall for Tony Book and Paul Mariner. |

| Uninspiring. Managers generally get the gig with big International jobs because they have had a track record of success, winning trophies etc. He's won fuckall. Oh well, gotta be confident we won't be relegated I guess. |

| He'll do alright so long as the hopes arent high. He should get us to Russia 2018 though although the football wont be pretty and ultiately the press will turn on him very quickly. |

| Not sure what to say really. The list of English candidates was very limited to say the least and I suppose Allardyce was as good as any. He hasn't got a bad record as manager to be fair even though he hasn't won a major trophy-did very well at Bolton with people like Okocha and Jaaskalieinen, big mistake by Blackburn to get rid of him. Never had him earmarked as a future England manager though but probably won't be the worst ever and I wish him luck in trying to wring shit from a rocking horse. |

| Sad times when the supposed best English managers are Allardyce & Steve Bruce. Why not go for Jurgen Klinsmann ? What does is matter that he's not English. |

| I'd've gone for Trevor 'tunes' Francis, we'd've shook up the World with Dele Adebola leading the line.
Bit surprised Pardew wasn't considered, probably perceived as a bit hot headed for the FA. |

| If the suits at the FA had any imagination (yeah, I know...) they would have at least interviewed Eddie Howe. Quite how old Jabba the Hutt is supposed to succeed where Capello, Erikson, Hodgson etc. Have failed is beyond me. |

| I was just reading a piece where chief headhunter Martin Glenn made it clear that they had been looking for the best man for the job, regardless of their nationality. Shorely after making that statement, and giving big Sam the job, he's talking shite.
If Allardyce is the best man for the job, why has he never been deemed suitable by ANY of the top clubs in England to be their manager?
That said, it will be interesting to see how he does working with supposedly 'elite' players. As a big England fan I hope it works. |

| Chris Coleman's club record was pretty crap. Then again, he doesn't have to deal with a dressing room full of 'world class' players. Maybe Big Sam will slap some bums and get them playing, or be brave enough to drop under-performing big names?
Probably not, but maybe... |

Horses for courses. Carroll was just what we needed against the massed defences we played recently. Him and a couple of decent crossers of the ball. I think Sam's a good choice, as coaches don't get much time with the players and he will play to our strengths and not suffer fools gladly. |

| I would have chosen Klinsman. But I kind of concur with a school of thought that the breath of fresh air which Sam will be, may turn out to be a good thing.
McClarens nightmare aside, England have usually qualified pretty comfortably in the build up to tournaments. We've also come very close to finals or at the very least Semi's, only to lose on penalties. It seems that Sams biggest challenge will to change the mentality of players once we are in the tournament. Get it through to players not to be afraid to make a mistake. Don't always look for the safe option because you're terrified you'll get slaughtered in the press if things don't come off.
Modern England play with too much fear. First and foremost, Sam needs to change that. |

He was sacked because he's a crackpot. I don't recall the exact wording but he said somethng along the lines of "disabled people deserve their disability because they are being punished for sins in a previous existence". Utterly barmy, at best, and grossly offensive, at worst, and his sacking was entirely appropriate. As for Sam... I think he might surprise everybody. He's never been given a crack at one of the bigger clubs where it is likely that he could win something so being trophyless shouldn't be held against him. He's actually quite a lot more open to new ideas than might be supposed and he was one of the first to start using dieticians, sports psychologists, prozone and all sorts of other innovative stuff. He also, rather bizarrely meditates! He's far from the old neanderthal you might perceive him to be. England teams will be well-drilled from now on too and he's a powerful figure who won't put up with cheek or lack of focus. And maybe Andy Carroll is the answer! He can hardly do worse than the recent few appointees and I hope he does well. Only one thing is certain and that is that nothing is certain so he might. |

| Ive said it before & i say it again the only thing that has been holding England back for many years now is the old codgers that actually run the FA |

But more importantly he wasnt a bad manager of England. His last management job was 2006 a pretty average spell in charge of Wolves. I think Big Sam in charge about sums up where English football is these days, the problem is cultural rather than the manager. Someone wrote a piece a while back saying the problem was that English footballers were basically thick, good at carrying out precise instructions but no good at improvisation or thinking outside the box. http://www.football365.com/news/are-england-too-thick-to-win-anything |

| "Them fings we done good" I like Sam. Mourinho moaning about Sam's team parking the bus at Stamford Bridge. Seem to remember him doing the same on a few occasions despite his blank cheque owner. Sam 'doesn't give a shit' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOgToHw7ABI |
