Who'll grab the headlines?

Obvs hopefully it'll be the footie but there's bound to be a bit of bother between the fans and I've got a horrible feeling that some form of terrorism is going to occur, it's a big country with porous borders and a lot of racial tension, their security services also seem somewhat laissez-faire.

Never has the phrase 'can't we just talk about the football' been so sincere.

Agree. I'll be surprised if some loon or group of loons doesn't try something. They arrested someone yesterday with a van full of weapons and explosives.

The hoolie stories are always well overblown anyway (on the whole).

Just the French version of the Thames Valley Boot Boys wanting a warmup match I expect, it's not just the hoolies that like a bit of bovver. It does crack me up to watch the lager louts hurling plastic chairs at a line of police about three chairs throws away from them, I'm surprised the armed forces haven't used the old plastic chair as a weapon before now, Isis wouldn't know what's hit them.

I've been practising in my garden all week. I've found that the 'discus' style method gets you the most distance. Neighbours ain't been best pleased, mind.

With many more English arriving today I expect tonight to be 'hectic'. Was always going to happen in Marseille, crazy decision to put England there, almost as if UEFA wanted agro.

I agree Les, absolute madness. I don't agree that UEFA wanted any such thing though.
I am no lover of mass police actions and they often cause much of the problems themselves with football fans or political protestors alike. Agent provocateurs are a favourite ploy. But then, I am sure there will be right wing APs doing the same thing in among the English fans. At this particular time, they may well think it will suit their cause, or maybe Cameron thinks it will aid his cause. Very strange to knowingly call a vote right in the middle of this particular tournament. A hard one to call. They're all sick, and bristling, the lot of them. What happened to Je Suis Charlie and Paris ? That didn't last long.
Part of the accelerating polarisation going on apace everywhere, and not just in Europe. The football fan thing will be part of the symptoms, as it was in the Balkans before the Serbian/Bosnia thing kicked off with tragic consequence.
On the football side, it should ensure an electric atmosphere., but not one I would want to be a part of.

Don't forget the actions of the people our fans are fighting with, I wouldn't look too deeply into this Biccie it's mostly young disaffected yoof (with a few disaffected middle aged hoolies thrown in for good measure) as always fifty wankers chucking plastic chairs about are more newsworthy than the few hundred thousand that will attend the games and bars without upsetting anybody, perspective needed.

Lots of England fans getting the shit kicked out of them in Marseilles, ambushed or thrown into the sea lol

England doesn't really have hooligans anymore - so the local gangs are Russian hardnuts having a field day.

A lot has changed in 18 years since England last visited Marseilles!

I would say a lot of the problem is our less-than-blessed-in-the-brains-department gentlemen simply showing a lack of imagination with where they drink. Saw it for the play-off final where a lot of Argyle gravitated to The Globe. The police had shut it more than 2 hours before kick-off because it was getting too boisterous. I was 2 mins away in The Volunteer where the atmos was convivial.

A stand-off developed in the Old Port district of Marseille

England fans 'embarrassing' says Labour's Andy Burnham

The behaviour of England fans in Marseille is "embarrassing", shadow home secretary Andy Burnham has said.

Police in Marseille had to deploy tear gas for a second evening to disperse England fans gathered ahead of their team's opening Euro 2016 fixture..

Mr Burnham said he was "prepared to believe there was provocation", and agreed the vast majority of England fans had been let down by a minority.

There is a major problem in Russia with football hooliganism, it is really bad by all accounts. They seem to be stuck in the 1970s/1980s.

The Russia media seem to have taken pleasure in the violence.

The initial response of Russian media to the scenes of violence in Marseille was one of gloating that Russian fans had come out on top, and planting the blame squarely on England supporters. Some reports in Moscow insisted that a small group of England fans had attacked hundreds of Russians and provoked them into a response, while others painted a picture of heroic Russians fighting off hordes of English hooligans.

Earlier, the Russians denied there was trouble in the stadium, but have u-turned.

DELUDED Russian sports minister Vitaly Mutko insisted there was no violent clash at the end of England’s Euro 2016 game against Russia – before backtracking completely as Uefa announced a probe into the fighting.

His original claim came amid calls from a Spanish paper for the Three Lions to be BANNED – despite European football’s governing body absolving them of blame.

What action should UEFA take against Russia, i know, wipe out their goal and award the game to England. That will teach the them.

I think the English, French and Russian thugs are as bad as one another. And we have got Germany v Poland coming up soon.

Polish and Northern Irish fans were attacked by French ultras on Saturday night.

As for the game itself, totally gutted that England conceded that very late goal. The first 45 minutes was excellent. Shame England had that Argyle feel about them, not putting the chances away.

You don't say.  Laughing
And knowing KGB Putin, quite a few serving military personnel as well, acting on Agent Provocateur instructions. He's a very naughty boy. He will think there's a lot to gain from certain high profile events in Europe.

Russia is a dangerous country, with much of Eastern Europe sharing it's hard right tendencies. And mirroring the rise of the right across Europe, and here as well. All part of the polarisation, and where we're heading.
Still, whatever will be, will be. People won't listen., and a lot welcome it.
