| What it says on .the tin
I heard about the death of a very close, old friend of mine this evening so maybe that and Windass's tale hits me hard. It puts all the other shit into perspective. (Makes me feel even more angry with the flaming game-players on here and the big boys who think they're so clever at playing mind games. If that's what it's all about then what's the feckin point! |

| Well said FM. Life is all about caring for each other. Sadly, some don't. If you're feeling a bit low this week, I'll meet up for a chat anytime if it would help. A friendly offer from someone from way back.

| When I saw the thread title thought he was going to be the new mentor, been around a lot. But if he is suicidal being connected to Argyle is the last thing he needs. |

| The way depression is treated is a joke. I had it a few years back and got dished out Prozac, I checked the side effects and one was 'may lead to suicidal tendencies'. I thought ive already got them lol (adopts Stuart maconie voice), Prozac what's that all about! However I was shocked about the clarity in which they manifested, I visualised the pro's and cons of various methods with an alarming level of reason. Eventually I realised that the 'happiness' of Prozac was manufactured and not real and the best solution was to sort my life out. However the threat dangles over me, how would I respond to losing my job or family?
Best FM.

| Was feeling suidicidal a couple of years back, massive family problems, went for counselling, it was explained that it is perfectly normal to get those feelings from time to time. I have now got over the crisis for the time being. |

| And Gary Speed. Whatever the reason he took his life, from the outside it looked as though he had it all. I've had periods of depression and it really is difficult to tell people about it. There's a really good advert on tv at the moment about a guy returning to work after suffering mental health issues and it is spot on, also think the Vinny Jones CPR advert is unbelievably good at getting the message across, and both are so much better than the type of public service advert that used to be aired. Hope all's well with you now FunnyMan, and that you have good support to turn to. |

| Such a sad thing to read about, must of been very hard for him to talk about it, let alone to the media. Really feel for him and his family. I hope he gets the help and support required.
Hope you are ok FM. It was nice to say hello on Saturday btw. |

| Sorry to hear about your news FM. Strangely the Gary Speed death hit me for a few days even though I obviously did not know him,or support any of the sides he played in. A workmate lost his son (who was 40) to cancer (only found out 6 weeks before) just before Christmas and its hard to know what to say sometimes.

| I lost a 3 year old daughter to leukaemia (one of the reasons I faced a breakdown) people I knew used to cross the street to avoid having to speak to me. |

| I had a younger brother, 18 months younger, who was born with a really rare liver disease, and he deteriorated rapidly from the age of 10, had to be cared for 24/7 by my parents and I shared a bedroom with him. He died just before his 17th birthday and it really hit me hard, another reason I was disgusted with Dane for using the word spastic as an insult. I named my son Ian after my brother and he looks like his uncle did before he became too ill to walk/speak etc. I now try and remember the good things when we were kids instead of how he suffered. |

| Hang on a miniute guys, his marriage broke down because HE chose to have an affair. That was HIS choice.
His father passing away would be naturally sad but that is something we have to accept in the natural order of events is always going to happen, youve got to enjoy people whilst you are with them......time is short.

| Thanks for the helpful messages, folks. I have appreciated them a lot. I’ve been upset, not depressed. Being upset is normal. Thanks for the invite pp – I will take you up on that some time but in more straightforward making contact with old acquaintances circumstances. Pat was someone I first worked with and later worked for. He was kind, thoughtful and generous and helped me through some bad times. He was intuitively good with the people we worked with; he was also able to think about it and few people can manage both. I played in a band with him – great to get paid for something I would have been doing anyway! He was the same age as me - 59. No age at all! In the last ten years or so he suffered strokes, had a breakdown of sorts, became an alcoholic and became increasingly recluse. This was triggered by substantial issues in both his professional and personal life. He was also a controlling bastard – something I told him on a few occasions. I haven’t tried to be in touch with him for about 6 years mostly due to my moving back down here. His dream was always to raise his family and then retire to a beach-hut in Cornwall. He didn’t manage that. He was a good man over whom I have shed tears in the last day. What he would make of having a tribute paid to him on ATD I hate to think! He'd probably roll a fag, get into his usual smoking position (a hippy squat) laugh and smile inscrutably. And, Zee, it was good to briefly say hello you on Saturday. You, Pat and Dean Windass are jointly to blame for my next step ….. I decided to say hello to you in the Guildhall in both my ATD and my pasoti guise (having exchanged a couple of more lengthy pms on there with you). I've been thinking on & off about lots of things all day including about the idiots on the internet who play games. I asked myself, “What would Pat do”? I have decided that by splitting myself into two identities I have been game-playing myself. So ….. I am “knecht” on pasoti. If I can work out how to do it, I shall change that to my nom de keyboard on here too. Right, on with the motley…….. |

| Hello Knecht I also suspected but did not want to out you. Your support for ATD (on pasoti) was a good indicator- but you also support pasoti on this site as well. Is there any significance to the name of is it a short version of connect? |

Knecht for various reasons - mainly the main character from one of my favourite books. I read it many years ago, heard it serialised on the radio fairly recently - "The Glass Bead Game" by Herman Hesse. Probably full of old esoteric hippie nonsense but nothing wrong with that! and if you really hadn't worked out who I was then you lot are more stupid than I thought you were. |
