| Ezequiel Lavezzi signs for Hebei China Fortune for £400,000 a week - making him the highest paid player of all time.
I've never even heard of him! Or them! |

| Oh please, are you Gargs really that parochial?
Lavezzi is a brilliant if somewhat streaky player and it is not the biggest wage of all time, I recall someone playing for that bunch in Dagestan getting quite a bit more.
He's 30 now and I guess this was the biggest deal on the table, plenty of others , a fair lump of them South Americans, are making the trek to China, whether they can cope when they get there is another question, I would rather move to Plymouth than Qinhuangdao, mind you it is handy for visiting the Wall. |

| I use the Avondale if I want to do that.
And, by failing to mention them, it appears that you don't know who he played for either!

<Lord Tis hits google> I rather assumed ducky that everyone with the remotest interest in footy would know that he was an Argie that played for PSG, hardly what you would describe as a low profile, FFS man, he played in the last World Cup. I do get the feeling that some of you guys really don't like or watch football very much. A reprise on the money, Samuel Etoo was reported to be on $560,000 at Anzhi so Lavezzi may well have topped that although my guess would be that either Messi or Ronaldo is actually the daddy where cash in the hand is concerned, reported figures from China, Dagestan and maybe even Spain would tend to be a tad unreliable. To be fair it is possible that Fat Scouser Shrek has the bulgingest wallet, why on Earth? might be the appropriate question. |

| I don't recall anything at all about Argentina in the last world cup. Which is odd. Were they very dull? How did they do? Who did they beat? Did he score?
The only PSG players I know are David Luis and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. That's pretty good, I reckon, since I care sod all about them.
All this Ezequiel fella reminds me of is Pulp Fiction. Other than that? Nought.

| I've since looked up his world cup performances. He came on as sub a couple of times and did not score. Then again neither did Argentina very often.
Argentina 3 Nigeria 2 Argentina 1 Iran 0 Argentina 2 Bosnia 1
Argentina 1 Switzerland 0
Argentina 1 Belgium 0
Argentina 0 Holland 0 (4-2 on pens)
Argentina 0 Germany 1
Scorers: Messi x4, Higuain, Rojo, Di Maria, OG.
I'm not surprised I don't remember them. I do recall the Iran game now and Iran were robbed.
To be honest I'm rather glad they've been expunged from my memory because the stats suggest they were functional and dull - which is something of a triumph with Messi in the team. |

Like a humid Middlesbrough. In the Summer yes, in winter more a Middlesbrough but 20 degrees colder, all of the time. |

Respect to the research but I can't slag the Argies in isolation, other than a couple or three performances from the big boys, the plucky efforts of the septics, really only Chile, Columbia and Costa Rica were worth watching, a dull as dish water World Cup, but a World Cup none the less. |

Do you know last year Costa Rica ( population 4 million ) generated 100%, yes, 100%, of their electricity from renewables, and not fossil fuels. Mainly hydro electric as Scotland used to be only 40 odd years ago. And do you know how they managed this extraordinary feat ? Quite simply, after all the hate and waste, they decided in the 1950s to disband their armed forces and put all that money into education. And from that education came the desire to do things in a different way. It takes long term investment to educate and stimulate positive cultural change. It's not a clean sweep by any means, as Costa Rica has it's issues like all of us, particularly cars, but it shows there is a third way that doesn't include a greedy grinning cheshire cat creaming the after dinner circuit. God forbid the oil soaked British press would report such success stories. |

| Gotta be said, managing to turn a statement about Costa Rica's footballing entertainment value into a full on assault on our Government and the British Press, in the space of two paragraphs, is pretty impressive. |

| I particularly liked the incidental reference to the auld Scottish hydro Electric Board, given that country's quite marked difference to England in so many matters at the moment, particularly the EU. To be honest, I was looking up Tisdale's reference to "sweaties" as I hadn't heard the term before. Needless to say, it disappointed me. I'm not used to such overt apparent disrespect. I didn't think my post was totally anti the British press, as I think the publicly owned Channel 4 and BBC radio ( not necessarily the television ) do a fine balanced job. In fact, I heard the Costa Rica energy history on an excellent regular series earlier in the week on radio 4, the name of which escapes me. |

Yeah it's amazing how much knowledge you can share online, 30 seconds after reading it on Google. |

Yeah it's amazing how much knowledge you can share online, 30 seconds after reading it on Google. Don't be silly, Homie. That came straight out of LT's supercomputer mind. After all, we already know that he's given birth to a couple of geniuses. And Motor owns umpteen Audis and earns more than some African states. Presumably Jabba has a sideline modelling smalls for European design houses, and Foxy is hung like an elephant. Proper Übermensch, these City fans... |

Yeah it's amazing how much knowledge you can share online, 30 seconds after reading it on Google. Not so amazing as picking up a few bits and pieces when helping one's second born to research a trip to the home of the sloth, she loves 'em, and Brazil for the Ols, now on back burner due to Zika. Incidentally did you know that Madagascar has one one Olympic medal? I can tell you his name, the event, his time and do the same for the guys who finished first and second in the race, or tell you the name of the Russki Chris Finnegan beat in the '68 Olympic final. Except of course it occurs to me that the chap I am thinking of didn't win a medal, Madagascar has never won a medal, he was simply the first ever to make a track final, there is no excuse for this kind of inaccuracy and I apologise whole heartedly for misleading anyone. Some of us take an interest in things and bother to remember what we see, you on the other hand are probably from the attention span challenged, X-Box generation, who know fook all but the prices on the MCDonald's menu and who got thrown out of whichever shiite reality show which is currently the vogue among the morons. Does that come across as crabby?
