Argyle have been linked with a loan move for Hibernian centre-back Jordon Forster.

The 22-year-old has made only one appearance for the Edinburgh-based Scottish Championship club – and that was in a League Cup tie in July.

Forster has been troubled by injuries over the past year after being a regular in the Hibernian starting line-up earlier in his career.

York City, bottom of League Two and managed by former Dundee United boss Jackie McNamara, have also been linked with Forster.

Hibs fans seem to rate him and feel he has potential but is injury prone. Looking at one of the later posts (Facebook pic on page 3) Forster has moved to a club but doesn't say where.

Plymouth Argyle target in line for loan move according to Hibs head coach Alan Stubbs

HIBERNIAN head coach Alan Stubbs has fanned the flames on a possible loan move to Plymouth Argyle for defender Jordon Forster.

The 22-year-old centre-back has not featured for the Edinburgh club since July 25 last year, in a Petrofac Training Cup match with Rangers.

Stubbs, a former Bolton Wanderers and Everton defender, revealed there had been no contact between the clubs, but a loan move was likely.

"There is a possibility that something might happen," he told The Scotsman.

"We have not had any contact between clubs but there is a possibility that Jordon may go out on loan.

"I know it is frustrating for those guys who have not featured all the time but I speak to them constantly."

Forster, who can also play at right-back, has been linked with League Two basement boys York City where they too have a Scottish manager in situ with Jackie McNamara.

The former Celtic trainee made 21 appearances for the Scottish Championship club last season and has Europa League experience dating back to 2013

I wonder if Adams is thinking of giving Mellor some much needed competition for his place?

A loan move for Jordon Forster to Plymouth was almost done yesterday but has stalled (unsure why) Hibs have offered him a 2 year contract.

Supposedly highly rated by Scottish football fans, hope he'd be a bit of competition for Mellor too.. Would be awful if he's in for Nelson though.

Plymouth leading pack for Hibs defender Forster

Out-of-favour Hibs defender Jordon Forster has a host of clubs willing to take him on loan.

Hibs-Mad understands that Plymouth Argyle have moved to the front of the queue of clubs interested in the versatile youngster, who can play centre half, right back or as a holding midfielder.

English League Two side Plymouth have been joined in the chase for his signature by long time admirers Kilmarnock, as well as Dundee Utd, York City & St Mirren.

Dundee had also been credited with an interest after their captain James McPake picked up a horror knee injury, but they have moved quickly to sign ex Celtic defender Darren O'Dea, which would likely kill any move for Forster.

Apparently only Plymouth, so far, have registered an interest (despite press reports of no contact between the clubs), and Hibs boss Alan Stubbs has confirmed that Forster would be allowed to leave on loan should an offer come in.

Forster, 22, is highly regarded at Easter Road, and it's thought Hibs are looking to offer the player a new deal, as his current contract runs out in the summer.

Forster has played 56 games for the Hibees, scoring 5 goals, since making his debut, in a 1-2 win at Tynecastle, against Hearts in the 2012/13 season.

He has also had loan spells with Berwick Rangers and East Fife, when he was a teenager in the club's development system.

Plymouth are managed by former Hibs assistant manager Derek Adams, who will know Forster well from his time at Easter Road, and as long term Ross County boss.

The possible move south for Forster also brings back memories of when a defender last left Easter Road for Home Park.

Frenchman Mathias Kouo-Doumbé left Easter Road for Plymouth in 2004, after he was unsettled by press reports of interest from Rangers and refused to sign a new deal.

The Rangers move didn't happen, so Doumbe signed for the then English Championship side Argyle, and went on to make nearly 150 appearances for the club, before leaving for MK Dons in 2009

Don't know any Hibees, but there is a Hearts fan out here who I play golf with from time to time (Argyle are his favourite English club by the way), who says one of the players that Hearts fans admire is Forster - and they don't admire many from Hibs as you can imagine.

Hope that helps. Laughing

Football League World

The only website to provide coverage of JUST the Football League

The Pilgrims are looking to strengthen their playing squad during the January transfer window in order to secure promotion from English football’s fourth tier.

They are currently top of the League Two table, three points clear of second place Northampton Town, and eight points clear of fourth place Portsmouth.

Hibs boss Alan Stubbs confirmed that if an offer came in for 22-year-old central defender Forster, he would be allowed to leave on loan.

Argyle are the only club to make a formal offer as yet, but clubs north of the border are said to be keen, with Kilmarnock, Dundee United and St Mirren the Scottish sides who have coveted the defender for some time.

League Two rivals York City have also made an enquiry about Forster’s availability, although the prospect of playing at the top of the division may sway Forster’s decision if both make formal bids.

However, Pilgrims manager Derek Adams is thought to be in prime position for the player’s signature as he knows him from his time as assistant manager at Easter Road.

So Forster is happy to move to the other end of the country, well another country really, to be a reserve option for a 4th tier side?

Alan Stubbs is happy with this too?

I would have thought first team football will have been requirement. Presumably he'd get that at York and be 7 hours closer to home. Maybe this is the very issue being discussed presently.

believe what you want but no where did i say sign him to be backup. We do need more cover, options and quality in the squad especially in defence as we are low there. If he signs im sure he wont be here as backup otherwise we could continue with bentley.

What is the difference between cover and backup?

If Forster makes it here by Saturday will he make the starting XI or not?

If not I don't think Stubbs will be keen to let his 'highly rated' young CB move to Plymouth to sit on the bench for 4th tier football.
