PS........they have a moslem population of nearly 79 million....slightly smaller than Germany.....BUT they also have borders with.....SYRIA...IRAQ...IRAN.....who in there right state of mind would want Turkey in the EU with there huge moslem population and have neighbours such as they have bordering the EU.........we wouldn't be the only country trying to get out.
......and it's nearly all in Asia !!!
I think it will be many-many years before Turkey ever join the EU. Not long ago, there was talk of civil war breaking out in Turkey and that is an even bigger worry for the country itself.

If civil war were to erupt in Turkey, daesh would be in there like a shot, stirring up trouble.
Turkey became a EU candidate country in 1999....and started formal membership talks in Oct 2005.
Germany and France preferred it to be classed as a "privileged partnership" instead of full membership.
Obvious problems with Greece...especially over Cyprus....but it has moved foreward recognizing Cyprus as an EU member.
Turkey sees itself as the eastern flank of NATO.
With millions of refugee moslems flooding into Europe....would the EU ever want to suddenly have it's religious balanced thrown more towards Islam by accepting 78 million Turks.
