Was also at Reading that day - painful memories.
Trevor Senior lives very close to us. Even 30 years later I refuse to talk to him.

Our run-in that season was nearly as good as Reading's start. We ended with 11 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat in our last 13 games. That defeat (I was there this time) looms just about as large in my memory as the Reading game I didn't go to.
We arrived at that game as all conquering heroes and left it totally defeated. It was if all the hard work had been undone in one game but the best (I wasn't at that one either - if there was one game I could go back to that would be it!) was yet to come...

And we had a strong breeze at our backs 2nd half. The tune from the old BA commercial on TV was used by Reading fans to taunt us, "you came all this way and you lost.......and you lost."

85/86 was my first season. I thought Argyle was always like that.

I don't know what was more upsetting, the defeat or the taunt.

Yeah, and not only that, I'm calling you obese, with a right old type 2 diabetes issue just around the corner. But you're in luck Les, today, the bariatric surgery bunch ( gastric band ) wanna move on to tackle the diabetes type 2 barons that are currently Henrying up all the money with their educational life style treatment for type 2. Don't ya just lurv modern corporate lobbies infiltrating your consciousness, telling you black is white. We might have austerity, but apparently surgery is far more effective in money terms than dietary/life style change. Yeah, OK.

Rollo, we have a juxtaposition that grates. No big deal, but you worry too much about personal presentation. You just worry about your own, and I'll worry about mine. I'm quite capable of self moderation when I have a popular election to fight. I'm not here to change the wrong minds, I'm here to represent a point of view. Mainly about Argyle, but not exclusively. If you want to stop that freedom, I suggest you stand for election.

You seemed to have hijacked Godwins Law.
This thread is about the 85/86 season and yet, as so often with your posts, you replace the Hitler Effect with some sort of Socialist message.
Or in simple English, give it a rest.

Corrct me if I'm wrong, but this thread was about Back to the Future, and playing with that idea of 21 October 2015. The BBC went off on far wider tangents than I have here. Have you never strayed from your path Rollo ? Probably not. The thread started off with Sir Cuz rattling on about the top division. But, wadda ya know, it gets hijacked by Avivas talking about Argyle and the old third division. Talking of Avivas, a great little round the table discussion tonight on Radio 4 with advertising execs from Aviva ( Norwich Union ), BP and others, and how sport sponsorship is calculated over 10 year periods. My gawd, do they not like FIFA anymore. They've really blown their gasket. Hope you don't mind yet another side track Rollo.

The original post was about the first division league table at the time of the Back to the Future date.
It carried on in that vein until you came in with "media ignorance", "establishment propaganda" and "tribe automatons".
Even Greenskin questioned the connection you made between Hollywood Tarts and the 1985 league table.
We then get back on track until you bring up "modern corporate lobbies infiltrating your consciousness".
Just about every thread you star in, somewhat ironically, carries some kind of Kinnockian subliminal message.
You clearly admire the torturous methods of the drip, drip effect.

Even Greenskin questioned the connection you made between Hollywood Tarts and the 1985 league table.Correct. He was falling way behind. He had no idea of B2TF
We then get back on track until you bring up "modern corporate lobbies infiltrating your consciousness". But they do, ever so
Just about every thread you star in, somewhat ironically, carries some kind of Kinnockian subliminal message.Incorrect. I'm not a fan of Kinnock Senior or Junior
You clearly admire the torturous methods of the drip, drip effect.Admiration is a bit strong, but I have noticed how much effect the national press have had over the generations. Sold monarchs to paupers, they have. Drip drip appears to have traction. Derek Adams calls it consistency

Kinnockian was more to do with his windbaggery than his politics.
You also see no problem criticising propaganda methodology yet are comfortable with using those same methods. So typical.
Goodnight.

Typical right winger, only likes the sound of money falling his way and the axe falling on other peoples lives, as soon as anyone mentions that the world as they see it is not nice for some people they get all angsty, he's probably gone to rob some homeless people or challenge some disabled people to a contest to see who's got more money.

You couldn't be more wrong. I dislike conservatism and socialism in equal measures.
I get both sides of the argument.
However, if we're talking about personalities then it's no contest.
The Lefties are so full of hatred and jealousy towards the right.
It's probably fuelled by the indifference shown to the left by the right.

You dont at all, hence the dull and glib stereotyping
The description of the Left as "Lefties" as though you're talking about a bunch of scruffy urchins about to strike over the tea break being cut to 10 minutes, makes me dispute that. Be honest Genghis Khan was probably too soft for you.
Its not jealousy or hatred its justified anger at thing like in the week that a number of UK steel plants have closed, we boast that we're letting Communist Chinese build a pointless new railway and a nuclear (NUCLEAR!) power station. Then there's the disgusting sleight of hand that is punishing thousands of working families, whilst more millionaires get tax breaks. Then theres the gradual and purposeful ruination of the education system and NHS. Thats not to say there isn't some good stuff coming out of the right, I enjoy Matthew D'Ancona's thoughtful pieces in the Guardian and Steve Hilton has being saying some interesting things recently.

Come on Hugh, don't wake him up, his myths keep him warm I must invent a few. Shouldn't be difficult, as long as I can get this darn hatred and jealousy out of my head. Anyway, trying to keep this thread on track, time travel is all the rage this week. Peter Snow ( he of the Left and the people owned Channel4, rather than John and Dan of the right, for all those with polarised views of the planet ) was doing his bit this lunchtime on Radio4. He ended up in 3214 in London. St Pauls Cathedral was still standing, the shard and gurkin were in ruins, apparently because their use was too narrow, and the culture of finacial institutions had disappeared. The panthenon, or parthenon, I'm not sure, was still standing down South, but was festooned with people's washing. Home Park didn't get a mention. I would have loved to know if the grandstand ever did get built.
