Queens Park Rangers could be set to recruit another goalkeeper this month, with reports claiming that the London club are closing in on a deal for Kayserispor goalkeeper Deniz Mehmet.

According to a report from Kralspor, the 22-year-old has been identified as a target for the London club, where he would most likely serve as understudy to current no.1 Robert Green.

Born in London, Mehmet started his footballing career with West Ham United and previously featured for the Irons’ Under-18 side in his younger days.

The goalkeeper also spent time with non-league outfit Welling United before sealing a move to Turkey.

He moved abroad back in August 2011 but has made just four appearances for Kayserispor, all in cup competitions.

Kayserispor were relegated from the Turkish Super Lig last season, but despite the drop down Mehmet has still failed to break into the first team and was named on the bench 12 times by the club in the second tier this term.

Measuring some 192 centimetres in height, the back-up is taller than Green and could yet prove to be a bargain recruit for Rangers, despite his unknown status.

A Turkey international at Under-17 level, Mehmet played for the national side at the 2009 European Championships and was once tipped for big things.
