arguably their best player has left for Championship promotion hopefuls Brighton. He declared himself unfit for the 2-1 defeat to Chesterfield, before passing a medical at the AMEX, signing a four year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Shrews boss Mickey Mellon, will surely need to replace the 22 year old, with Jermaine Grandison, Mark Ellis and Dom Smith; the only first team centre-backs on the books. We provide a list with five potential replacements for the Wolverhampton born defender.
Curtis Nelson
He is currently Plymouth Argyle’s captain – meaning the Pilgrims would be very reluctant to see him leave. The 22 year old, who was born only an hour away in Newcastle Under Lyme; began his career on the books at Stoke City. Nelson spent seven years at the Britannia Stadium, with game time largely being restricted to cup matches.
He joined Plymouth in 2009, and has so far made 166 appearances for the club, scoring five times. Nelson’s versatility may appeal to the Shrews’ management team – he can operate anywhere across the back four and in midfield too
