| A key plank of the Governments electoral success was the "competence V chaos" argument and a promise to re-balance the economy through investment in infrastructure. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Half of its major projects are in the shit, Including the major re-haul of the nations railways which apparently they apparently can't afford now, despite only being announced a year ago.. The fact Ian Duncan Smith is still in a job despite the Universal Credit descending into complete chaos and farce you couldn't make it up. |

They attempted that with Railtrack from 1993-2000 and it was a complete shambles culminating in the Hatfield Rail Crash. |

| Patrick McLoughlin is doing a good job trying to squirm off the hook, despite being the minister directly responsible for Railtrack (and has been the Minister for Transport for nearly three years). |

| So, where does that leave the much promised improvements to the line at Dawlish and the possible 2nd line into Devon and Cornwall?
Just so much more bullshit from politicians?

That wasn't within the £38.5 budget That was just a photo opportunity for Cameron and Osborne to turn up somewhere in a hi viz jacket and hard hat and make vague statements of something being done and hope they don't get held to it. Electrification of the Great Western line to Cardiff is about the extent that the Government are helping the South West, that goes ahead. Similar projects for the midland mainline and Transpennine have been shelved. So much for the Northern Powerhouse, whatever that was. |

It is, the biggest single issue affecting all these projects is the squeeze on funding due to the outstanding PFI debt incurred under Gordy Broon, a tad over £300 billion. |
