protesting is fine and dandy if thats what you feel you must do. Although protesting against a party (whether you like them or not) that were democratically voted for in a majority is slightly strange for socialists to do if you ask me.

However writing feck tory scum on a war memorial especially the day after the VE Day 70th anniversary is sickening and up there with that millionaire david gilmour's son swinging of the cenotaph a few years ago protesting against tuition fees (not that he ever paid them btw a fact that oftern got hushed up )

I wonder if these student anarchists that caused the riots yesterday actually voted themselves it would be interesting to know when hey are caught and if they understood that defacing a war memorial especially one created to honour those who fought for free speech and the right to vote was a big own goal and not attacking the tories only helping them win over the public.

Unfortunately the only way protests ever get reported in the press is when some f*ckwit does something like put graffiti on a war memorial. There was a save the NHS protest last year, but because everyone behaved themselves the press ignored it.

I believe the protest was about austerity, so presumably would have happened even if Labour had got in. Of course there are always a minority of nut jobs who'll join any protest to use it as a cover for criminal activity.

Very true flat but on the flipside it also ruins any support the public may have when you choose to deface a war monument especially when that same one is very symbolic today.

If you're stupid enough to vandalise a war memorial, you're too stupid to vote. They probably all wrote 'Russell Brand' on their voting slips in crayon.

Has the person who defaced that war memorial actually been identified and named?

Or is it just an assumption that it was a soap-dodging student?

You've missed my point here.

I don't know who defaced the war memorial, neither do you and neither does anybody else so far as I know.

If you do know who did it please share the guilty person's name with us.

Why hasn't this been on the BBC news? Or any news come to think of it? Twitter and other social media outlets are reporting events more so than the mainstream press!! Very strange, or very convenient? (dons tin foil hat) Laughing

It has been on the Beeb news. Anyway I totally disagree that you shouldnt demonstrate against a recently elected government. Just casting your vote does feck all to change anything. And didn't our grandparents fight in the wars to protect free speech? To live in a country where you don't get beaten by the police or slung in jail just for letting your own feeling s known?

They must have given it literately seconds of air time then because I watch a fair bit of news and haven't seen anything. Perhaps it was shown in the 30 Milliseconds I ran to the fridge to get a fresh cold beer!

On the online Beeb news site. And Charlotte Church has joined the soap dodgers, I always thought she was dirty.

Fair enough, but proportionately, the vast majority wait to see the main evening news, albeit BBC or ITV. Yes, she is dirty, to which I can very much concur - but that's another story for the ATD close-season doldrums. Smile

they fought for free speech, right to vote and protest in a democratic way. They didnt fight to have all they fought for spat on by some soap dodger defacing a memorial or kicking of with the police so the 200 that turned up can get teh medias attention

Agreed, they didn't fight so that some wannabe anarchist who probably has no idea what they're even protesting against can deface their memorials. The old bill should be allowed to batter the little shitcnuts imo.

Protesting is to be encouraged. Defacing war memorials is pathetic.

if 200 mainly young kids were kicking off in that area under the guise of "protesting the election results" and that occurs you dont need to be poriot to workout that someone in that group did it. while there is cctv in that area i gather the police will catch the git soon enough.

I hope they do. It was a senseless, disgusting thing to do.

What might we deduce if they do not?

For me, pigeon-holing all protestors as soap dodging anarchists is every bit as dumb as looking upon all the millions of UKIP voters as racists.

I thought it was an anti-austerity protest not an anti-democracy protest and it certainly was all over the TV channels and the newspapers around here,

The group.....End Austerity Now....who organized the peaceful protest at the weekend have other protests lined up.....and not just in London.

The largest event will gather at the Bank of England on June 20th.

But there are violent factions already threatening to overtake the peaceful protest.....one group warned it would "raise hell" with supporters pledging to commit violence and arson. This group calling itself "Reclaim the City" said it would bring violence to the peaceful protest being organized by the group "End Austerity Now".

The Facebook page of... "Reclaim the City"...wrote that it was time to raise hell in London....our voice is ignored year after year so now is the time to make them afraid and make real change happen for us all......this is from a report in todays Daily Telegraph.

This is the group that infiltrated the protest at the weekend....and daubed the Women of World War 11 memorial in Whitehall with graffiti.

Many anti-Tory protesters cannot face up to another five years of a Tory Government that has thrown off any shackles that the Lib-Dems were able to provide to slow down Tory policies.
