Jack 'Pieface' McDermott has quit his job at McDonalds as he looks to pursue other things in life

LIFE was never going to be quite the same for Plymouth's Jack 'Pieface' McDermott after finishing fourth on reality TV series, Big Brother.

Having won over millions of viewers across the country, amassed an army of followers online and scooped more than £23,000 in winnings, the 23-year-old described the past three weeks since departing the house as "mental".

And now, in order to pursue other things in life, Jack has decided to hang up his apron and resign from his post at fast-food chain McDonalds - a job he has had since 2007.

The proud Plymothian admitted "it was not a decision I took lightly", but one he hopes will kick-start new projects for the future.

"It was tough," he said. "After coming out of the house, it was something I had to consider.

"I spoke to my friends, family and boss to find out their thoughts and they've all been really supportive.

"I'm doing this to try new things and to do more of the things I enjoy. I'm going to miss it like mad, though. The people, the staff and the customers have made the past seven or eight years absolutely incredible.

"I'll look back on my time with happy memories, that's for sure. In all honesty, if I didn't win the money that I did, I'd be back there now in a flash. It's as simple as that."

As for what lies in store, Jack revealed he will make an on-air debut alongside Gordon Sparks on BBC Radio Devon when his beloved Plymouth Argyle face Gillingham in a cup tie next week.



Aside from that one-off appearance, however, the 23-year-old remained tight-lipped - not because he is obliged to, but because he simply doesn't know.

"I'm buzzing for it," he said. "Everyone knows how much I love Argyle. This is like a dream come true to commentate on them, so I can't wait.

"Apart from that, I don't have anything concrete lined up - believe it or not! The reason why I resigned on Monday was to push myself forward and kick on with my life.

"One thing that's for sure, though, is that I won't be leaving Plymouth. I love this city; it's my hometown and I love the people.

"I was in London the other week and I just didn't feel comfortable. I was on the tube and it didn't feel right.

"This is where I'm from and I'm not leaving. Besides, I can't leave my team behind can I?

"I'll be back on the banana bus with the boys this weekend for the first game of the season away at Wimbledon; after that, who knows what I'll be doing?

He is in for a huge shock if he honestly thinks he will make any decent career in the media on the back of big brother.
