Maybe a bit too obvious an April Fool to trick everybody but it got me going for a while.
Whats wrong with it:talk the economy down, create panic about the economy and cut vital services then start spending again just in time to present tiddly growth as proof its all working but we need another 5 years to sort out the problems we were supposed to have already fixed
