| On brixham pier? They have installed a bird scarer that is a crow in distress played through a loudspeaker sounds proper tortured, dont know about the birds but it scare me off, all because they have failed a water quality test and blamed the pigeons and seagulls shitting in the sea lol. They interviewed one local lady who said "their only dirty birds get rid of them!" I tend to agree with her but still harbour a fondness for a proper dirty bird. |

Well yes, lovely.
But to quite literally have the likelihood of a top class development on Drakes Island hanging in the balance purely on the basis that it may disturb some birds in nearby trees, is fuckin nuts.
Actually it's beyond fuckin nuts. I'm just struggling to think of an apt 'beyond nuts' phrase. Bat shit crazy? |

| There's already one boutique hotel in the area (the old Admiral's house at Mount Wise) looking for an owner / tenant - why does anybody think there's a market for another? |

| Ideas for Drake's island:
* Tracy Island theme park
* Home for a James Bond-style villain
* Alcatraz
* Put a sodding great Statue Of Liberty type thing on. A 500 ft tall Sir Francis Drake statue would be perfect...
A hotel is one idea but why would you stay there? Lots of hassle going to and fro the mainland, innit.
TBH an outward bound base as of old seems about the best idea to me with school groups, scouts etc camping out there and doing outdoory stuff.

| Drake's Island dispute continues as council hits back at developer's 'ransom' claim
ThE war of words over the future of Drake’s Island is continuing ahead of next week’s crunch planning meeting.
Developer Rotolok has threatened to pull out of the multi-million pound hotel project after council officers recommended it be refused due to concerns about a collection of rare birds on the island.
Aidan McCauley accused planning officers of holding the scheme to ransom – but now the council has hit back, saying the company has not provided it with enough information.
A PCC spokeswoman said: “Planning officers have been working tirelessly on the planning application to be able to make a positive recommendation to the planning committee.
“However at this stage officers are currently recommending refusal of the application, because we do not have enough evidence for the planning committee to make a lawful decision, despite many requests to the developer for this information.”
The council says it is still “very supportive” of the principle behind the plan to bring a hotel, restaurant, spa, gym and swimming pool to the historic island, but has not been able to reach an agreement with Rotolok over the effect it would have on a collection of rare little egrets.
“We are still waiting for essential information which we are required by law to consider as part of a decision,” the PCC spokeswoman added.
“If we do not, we face serious financial risk to the taxpayer and possible legal challenge due to legislation surrounding European protected species and the marine environment.
“Under current legislation we have to ensure these issues are properly addressed before a decision can be made.”
Council officers are preparing to meet with Rotolok representatives ahead of the planning committee meeting on Thursday(15) to discuss the issues.
“While these are exciting plans, no applicant or application can be exempt from the laws and regulations everyone else has to follow,” the PCC spokeswoman said. “These laws help safeguard the assets we all cherish – our waterfront, our environment, our history and our city, including Drake’s Island.”
The council has received letters of representation from Natural England, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and Cornwall Wildlife Trust, who are worried the rare egrets may leave the island if they are disturbed by building work.
Mr McCauley suggested the firm could pull out of the scheme altogether if permission is not granted.
“It would be great to see the New Year in with the commissioning of this project rather than being forced to invest those funds elsewhere,” he said. |

| Year round access is going to be a problem, perhaps a deal with the MOD using the Millbay liberty boats?
They will have to rebuild the jetties first, last time I looked they were literally falling into the sea. _______________________________________ COYG!

| Macauley is a wanker, Macauley is a wanker, na na na naa, na na naaa! Brings back memories and makes me think how lightly Brent has got off at the hands of the fans. Anyway back on topic why shouldn't big businesses jump through the same hoops that we do, sounds like Rotolok treating the council and planning system with contempt. Also these companies have the means and manpower to do this work its just cheaper to bully your way through. |

As it comes under Plymouth's jurisdiction it would be Devon. |
