(Actually nothing to do with Christmas, just something I've been trying to work out.)

What's the relationship between two people if the grandfather of one of them is the great uncle of the other? How many times removed are they cousins (and can they get married)?

Well, since it's perfectly legal even for first cousins to marry then all seems good. Increased chance of genetic anomalies though - nothing new then! Very Happy

Nail on head, Mouldy - I'm trying to find out just how much inbreeding there was in my family (yes, it would explain a lot). I've also found somebody who married a woman with exactly the same first, middle and surnames as his mother, although it looks as if they were only distant relations.

Close, Angry - it's Norfolk ...

Yesfokkin way, Mock - having double checked the grandfather (no single website has all the answers ...) turns out the second lot were indeed first cousins.

Thankfully he was my great grandfather's brother and she (the cousin) isn't what Dolly Parton calls blood kin (at least not of mine), so no harm done. Innit.

Peggy when you start looking into things like this you find all sorts!

Looking into my Mum's family I have now found my Great Grand Father with 3 different Christian names and a second name not seen before as well as 3 different birth dates. His Mum married someone from London who had the same surname but I can't find any record of him and his sister has no birth date that I can find.

As for my Dad's side of the family, the injunctions are now in place so we can go back to a normal life! Suspect affraid

If you need any help Peggy pm me.

I found my Great Great Grand Father (I think) got married in higher St Budeaux church, went in Selway, came out Solway, came down to Plymouth with the  Chard family ( well known in the film Zulu)
