Will this effect O'conner loan in January

Blackburn Club statement

The Football League have today issued a media release which includes reference to the fact that Blackburn Rovers will be subject to an ‘FFP embargo’ in January after failing to comply with the Championship’s Financial Fair Play rules.

Rovers exceeded the maximum permitted deviation of £8m during the 2013-14 playing season and will be placed under such sanction from January 1st 2015 until the end of the current campaign.

The club will have the opportunity to have its embargo lifted at the end of the season by demonstrating that it has stayed within the maximum permitted deviation of £6m for the 2014-15 season.

Rovers’ Managing Director Derek Shaw said: “Whilst the ruling will clearly present some difficulties, we will of course respect the rules of the Football League.

“A lot of effort and hard work has been done to reduce player costs over the last two years, but we have wanted to rebuild and challenge in this division at the same time, and we will continue to do that.”

The rules of Financial Fair Play and the Football League allow Blackburn and other affected clubs to sign loan players and free agents if they have less than 24 'established players' and do not pay those loan or free agents in excess of £600,000 per year in wages. In any case O'Connor is not listed as an 'established player' because of his age.

The embargo also does not impact on sales of players or loans to other clubs which will of course assist the affected clubs in reducing their debt and their ability to work within the new FFP rules.

If anything I would expect the pressure on Blackburn to get rid of players has grown considerably. It could well be that they're desperate to get rid, he wants to stay, Sheridan likes him...

Get the deal done before someone else nabs him!

....or, they'll be more minded to retain (relatively cheap) players already on their books to fill the holes that'll soon emerge.

Hope not, just putting the flip side of the coin.

Act fast Argyle in January we will need O'Connor if we are to push on and secure a play off place along with Kellet and B.Reid. Dont get me wrong we will still need to strengthen still even if we do sign these guys till the end of the season but these 3 will make a great start.
