Artificial pitch proposals not approved by Football

League clubs after tied vote

PROPOSALS for clubs to be permitted to use artificial playing surfaces for games in League One and League Two from the start of the 2015/16 season have not been approved.

It follows an unprecedented tied vote by Football League clubs at an EGM in Derby, with 34 clubs voting in favour and 34 against, with four abstentions.

Argyle manager John Sheridan has been firmly against artificial 3G (third generation) pitches being used in the Football League

Utterly banal decision, Maidstone make serious money from their 3G pitch which helps enormously with the running of the club, anyone that wants a look at how well the current generation pitches play the Stones vs Stevo replay will be on BT Sport on Nov 20th.

Plassy pitches are awful. Fine for non-league where every man and his dog can trample on them 24/7, but proper (league) football needs to be played on grass. ( or maybe grass with a few lassy bands thrown in...)

I've played on a few 3G and even 4G pitches.

I don't like them and prefer grass. I don't really know why cos better football can be played on them and they're not the astro burn dangers of even 5 years ago. I just prefer the variant and the feel of grass. Having said that it might be because our home pitch is one of the best grass pitches in the area. If we play away I'm more than happy to be on artificial most the time.

The team I manage play on 4G Astro and it's superb. As long as it's looked after (which it will be by a professional club) it's a fantastic surface to play on and you very rarely have to postpone a game.
Injuries seem to be far less because people don't seem to make such stupid sliding challenges.
The one downside is we are really 5hit on it.

If the plastic fibres were under sown with fragrant herbs then when you slid and grazed your shin it would be soothed by the healing powers of natural oils.
