It's ok. The curtains usually stay closed until I've finished my naked tai chi.

Are you very noisy during it Peggy?

Perhaps you are the dockyard siren?

Ahhh the floating pontoon. Had many a night session down there catching Thornies and getting pelted with marbles/stones/rocks etc by the local youth. (Actually, most of them hadn't even reached 'youthdom')

Is that the Pontoon adjacent to the Swan Pub that is sadly no longer there? I used to love it down there on a thursday night watching live bands.

The Swan! Just after i started working in the docky, some of the lads took me down to that hostelry to celebrate my 19th birthday.I thought i was a reasonably accomplished drinker but the Swan served only real ale and one draught lager, namely Holsten.Having been reared on lagers such as Skol,Hofmeister etc, naively i thought that all draught lagers were the same and started drinking pints of Holsten in the same manner as usual.I was soon put right as to the fact that some lagers were stronger than others when after my third pint went down the hatch,my legs gave way at the same time and i was lying on the floor listening to howls of derisive laughter and shouts of "geddon bhey" from my colleagues and the regulars.Strange thing was that i didn't even feel pissed but had to beat a hasty retreat after that,so embarrassing. All part of growing up i suppose, sad that the Swan isn't still there to catch out others in a similar way.

The Swan that was my growing up pub, Mrs Jay the owner used to give us a tab until pay day. That was in 1965. A farmer family from Cornwall took over and started to change the pub.  The Steam Packet is still going strong, I know the owner very well. We used to go to Argyle with our girl friends when we were teenagers.

As we all know Plymouth is made up of 3 towns, Plymouth,  Stonehouse and Plymouth Dock (Devonport).

Stonehouse and Devonport became part of Plymouth in 1914 and we became a city in 1928.

I wonder when the siren was first used in the dockyard? And was it audible in Plymouth (not Stonehouse or Devonport)?

I live pretty close to Plymuff railway station and can hear the siren every Monday morning at 11.30, however i consider the term 'Janner' to be derogatory.........
