We through to the next round
PLYMOUTH Argyle have been given a bye into the second round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy this season.
They are among 16 clubs – eight in the northern section and eight in the southern – who will not have to enter the competition in round one.
Also getting byes in the southern section are: Bristol City, Exeter City, Northampton Town, Colchester United, Dagenham and Redbridge, Luton Town and Milton Keynes Dons.
The draw for the first round will take place on Saturday, August 16 – the day Argyle play Exeter in a League Two Devon derby at Home Park.
Meanwhile, The Football League are to trial the use of vanishing spray, as used by referees at the World Cup in Brazil, in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy this season.
Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey said: “It will give us the opportunity to observe its use in domestic football so that we can better understand its effect on the flow of the game.
“It will also give us the ability to gauge the opinions of players, managers, referees and fans.”
Vanishing spray will not be used in Football League or Capital One Cup ties this season.
But the League will consider its introduction at the end of the 2014/15 campaign.
