| Argyle boss John Sheridan close to completing loan deal for 'defensive' player JOHN SHERIDAN hopes to add an on-loan ‘defensive’ player to the ranks at Plymouth Argyle at the start of next week. Sheridan is keen to bolster his small squad before the Pilgrims open their League Two campaign at Cambridge United on August 9. Injuries to Matt Lecointe and Deane Smalley have limited their game-time in pre-season, and Dominic Blizzard has not played at all. Sheridan would not reveal the name of the player he was close to signing, but confirmed it would be a loan deal until January. “I’m hoping to have it sorted out by next week,” said Sheridan. “We have more or less agreed everything. “He has just got to make one or two minor little decisions, and the club won’t let him come until Sunday.” Sheridan continued: “I just want to fill in one or two areas so we have strength in depth – defensively, in midfield and a wide man. Hopefully, I can do that.” Blizzard and Smalley are set to take a full part in training next week, ahead of the trip to Cambridge. Sheridan said: “With them two back we will look a lot stronger, and with one or two others coming in, it will push people who think they are probably going to be in the team. | Can't fault JS, he is trying to build a team capable of promotion or challenging for promotion....
I just fear for him and the fall out that follows if promotion is not achieved come May '15.

| The deal is off now... @ChrisErrington1: John Sheridan reveals the 'defensive' player he hoped to sign on loan next week will not now be allowed to move to #pafc by his club. @ChrisErrington1: That is because his club have had a couple of injuries and do not want to leave themselves short of cover. #pafc [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| Time is running out, we need more strength in depth and preferably before the season starts. |

| Shez has been at the club long enough to know that it's not always easy to attract his preferred targets to the club, in which case he should be coaching the shit out of the likes of Bentley, Purrington, Allen, Harvey and Lecointe, so they develop, and can be trusted not just to make up the numbers, and provide cover, but to flourish whenever they are called upon.
