| Just a bit of fun here, so please don't start posting essays about the limitations of fortune telling computer software, or Freddie Adu etc.
(Although I do genuinely think the game is pretty accurate in sorting the players who will go far, and those who will sink, but that's an aside)
Here's what the scouts say about them (game developed end of 2012 - released in 2013):
Carl McHugh Current Ability: Good signing for most League Two sides Potential Ability: Could be a good League One CB Estimated cost to sign him: £130k - £180k Weekly wage: £400 at Bradford. Wants £1,100 if transferred.
Peter Hartley Current Ability: Good signing for most League One sides Potential Ability: Not likely to improve Estimated cost to sign him: £600k - £800k Weekly wage: £925 at Hartlepool. Wants £3,000 - £4,000 per week if transferred.
Kelvin Mellor Current Ability: Good signing for most Championship sides Potential Ability: Could be a very good Championship RB. Estimated cost to sign him: £725k - £1m Weekly wage: £2,000 at Crewe. Wants £4,900 if transferred.
Lee Cox Current Ability: Good signing for most League One sides Potential Ability: Not likely to improve Estimated cost to sign him: £150k - £220k Weekly wage: £1,800 at Swindon. Wants £3,000 - £4,600 per week if transferred.
Deane Smalley Info N/A. Scout basically said he was Blue Square Premier level and didn't feel the need to scout any further.
So out of the lot, the game identifies Mellor as the pick of the bunch to go furthest in the game. Smalley apparently a waste of our time. Concurs that Cox and Hartley are League One level players, McHugh is on a trajectory towards that level, and Mellor is will end up having a good quality Championship career. Either Derby must have agreed with the game scouts (or vice versa) when they were trying to sign him, before that move fell apart, so hopefully he can get back to that form with Argyle.
A good thread to resurrect in 12 months and 2 years time perhaps.
Meanwhile Argyle's defenders going out look horribly overpaid. The game has Blanchard on £1,200 a week, Berry on £900, Hourihane on £750, Branston on £700, Nelson on £650. Possibly why things turned out as they did for all the individuals involved: Hourihane leaving for a decent wage with Barnsley, Berry turning down a wage that reflected his worth, Blanchard discarded having been on far too much money, and Nelson the only player representing any value for his wage. |

| I find FM a decent enough game however among a few other things the amount of Yellows and Reds you pick up no matter what the formation and tactics are a bit out of context with reality, ridiculous runs without wins as if it is somehow built into the game engine etc. I did however manage to get an uber skint Dorchester from a struggling Conference South team into League 2 in 4 seasons so it can't be all bad. |

Innit. I can't wait until the start of the season to see these players. I just want to know whether these are well rated players we've got here, and by and large they look promising. Apart from Smalley - fingers crossed he doesn't end up like Chadwick and begging for a deal in the non leagues. |

Only out of the ones we had last season though- and in all honesty he was probably second only behind Nelson. I take your point though- it's a bit of fun but you can't really judge by FM current ability. An aggregation of marks out of 20 for various attributes doesn't really reflect reality- too many variables. Some attributes matter, some don't, some aren't accurate, some hidden attributes etc etc. |

| I would sell Mellor immediately for £750k! Let's hope Brent doesn't see those valuations! |

Some attributes matter, some don't, some aren't accurate, some hidden attributes etc etc. The game seems to have a good grasp of what is going on though. By going on, I mean what the players are earning, who the team's best players are, who the prospects in the academy are, and which players have the potential. It is also remarkable how players transfer on the game identical to real life, long after the game has been out. You can only suspect the developers are privy to some top insider info. In terms of getting that information, they usually have an insider from each club submitting info. Agents also surrender details on their clients. So it really isn't too bad a resource really. Just a fun thread to see if the players turn out as predicted of them once upon a time. |
