PostSubject: The guess the squad thread   The guess the squad thread EmptyTue May 06, 2014 8:08 pm

I don't really watch much PL football so there could be some good young players that I've over-looked and a few old hoofers who still could (for instance I wish Terry was available...).

Anyway here's my 23. (If it's a 22 we need leave Nolan out.)

GK (3): Hart, Stockdale, Buckland

FB (3): Shaw, Baines, Johnson

CB  (5): Cahill, Smalling, Jones, Lescott, Jagielka

MID (6): Lallana, Gerard, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Barkley, Wilshere, Millner, Nolan

FOR (6): Rooney, Defoe, Sturridge, Lambert, Sterling

(Quick edit made: Nolan for Crouch.)

The squad according to best performers in the Telegraph's Fantasy Football.

GK: Hart, Ruddy, McGregor (is he English?) or Marshall (ditto) or Foster (hasn't he decined?) or Harper

DEF: Baines, Cahill, Shaw, Davies, Rosenior, Delaney, Gibbs, Ward (they might not all be English - I'm not sure)

MID: Gerard, Sterling, Johnson, Henderson, Stidwell, Shelvey

STR: Sturridge, Rooney, Lambert, Campbell, Crouch, Welbeck

McGregor is Scottish. That's a funny error if by the telegraph.

Shelvey is one until recently I had not considered. A match winner and good on the ball. Has been better than Wilshere this season for examle.

The Telegraph didn't give nationality. I just read down and omitted the foreigners (which was most of them). I did say I wasn't sure.

I was going to select my squad....but looking at the players available.....I couldn't believe how lacking in quality it would be.....I certainly wont stay up beyond 10pm to watch any England games.....there might be only three anyrate......two if we lose the first couple....it could be humiliating......we've got to limit the foreign players so are younger talent get a chance to develop in the Premiership.

BUT not in top clubs 'B' teams as in the proposed new set up.

Hart will be in goal.

Cahill and Jagielka. Johnson and Baines.

Gerrard, Chamberlain

Rooney, Sturridge.

Every other position is more or less up for grabs and it'll be up to fringe players to try and get into the side. I can't say I'm particularly bothered about player x vs player y in any instance. Maybe I'd like Lallana to play.

Did SFD put Kevin Nolan in the World Cup squad? Seriously?

Hart
Baines
Johnson
Cahill
Jagielka
....
Gerrard
Carrick
Lampard (I think he'll go and start)
Wilshire (can't stand him for England)
Sterling
....
Rooney

I think we'll go one up top - that's my prediction for Roy's first XI

My dream squad

Hart, Forster (our strongest positions and I pick just two)

Baines, Cole, Jagielka, Cahill, Terry (I'd take him but as a reserve), Johnson, Walker
the defensive area is really weak as the best full backs are generally not English...this will be a common theme in my next selections.

Llalana (spelling?!), Sterling, Gerrard, Carrick, Lampard, Barkley, Barry... I'm strugglng now... Adam Johnson, Henderson

Rooney, Sturridge, Carroll (impact sub), Lambert

Feck me reading all those names is depressing. After voting for Ukip I think I'll become Belgian for a couple of months.

Some time ago we discussed the next England manager and you all scoffed at me for suggesting Pulis. He just seems to me the only bloke who can get results out of whatever bag of shite he ends up with.

The Belgians have Fellaini.
Arghhhhhhh

Argentina, Brazil and Spain - no other team has a hope in hell.

My son has told me that after checking out the teams he thinks Belgium will be in the final. I might even put a bet on them.
