| Just been perusing the usual early offers online. It all seems very expensive. More than usual by the time you add on the extras that the holiday operators used to show on the initial price.
I thought I'd found a few bargains until you go through the motions and then it's extra for baggage, transfer, plane seats together, in-flight meals, insurance etc etc.
Settled for my favourite in the end. Cuba, well, Cayo Coco, which is a string of islands off the north coast of Cuba. Been there 4 or 5 times over the last 10 years. It's one of my favourite destinations. Cheap, fantastic beaches, outstanding food, premium drinks (London Gin, Black Label, Glenfidich etc) all part of the all inclusive drinky poos. Hot as feck, to die for beaches, outstanding photography opportunities (Photography is my hobby), unbelievably friendly people, 'Man' cigars rolled on the thighs of virgins, fantastic scuba diving, best ever Mojitos, Marlboro fags 40p a packet, chance to ride and photograph genuine WW2 GI cars that are still going as taxis, bla bla bla ad nauseam.
The crazy thing is that I priced up several holidays, i.e all inclusive, same time of year, etc, for places like Mallorca, portugal, Italy, Cypress etc, and they were just as, if not more expensive!! I don't get it. I guess Cuba is still (just) a hidden gem that isn't top of peoples holiday list, generally!!!

| I prefer to go to lake garda (Garda town) it does cost a bit but does have everything. Full of culture or r and r or sport (water sports or skiing)what ever takes your fancy. Bardilino only a short walk for some nice wine. Milan about a hot away for sum shopping or even venice is not to far. I prefer to get away from everything when staying helps to recharge the batteries after a busy year running the business. The big plus its only 1hr30mins from gatwick. also i like to stay in the hotel below. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]The locals are always very friendly not like the spanish and some of the shopping is good fun. Sirmione is only a short ferry trip away. Happy days enjoying a glass of wine on the piazza. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

| That looks great, LM.
I have actually looked at Lake Garda a few times but never seemed to get any further than actually look!!
I'm looking for a week away in September. Usually go for a cottage in North Devon or on the North Cornwall coast, but LG looks a definite alternative. |

If you do decide to go give us a shout some of the cafes in garda town are fantastic a large beer is a 1 litre stein not bad. Cafe roma was always nice one on a late afternoon enjoying a large beer/glass of wine with a nice italian ice cream. or stay in the hotel roma [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] |

Is it the Christian part of Cambourne? far too 19th century to cambourne, last time i was there it was pretty much a ghost town in parts. |

| I like traveling in my van, anywhere in Europe, North Africa and the cost is usually about £2000 for a month including ferries, diesel and all our drinks and food for the two of us. Ferries sting us but we can only go in August when my wife has time off from work. Six weeks in Morocco cost £1500 for six weeks but then you don't drnk so much. My next big trip will be Aisa somewhere now that is cheap. I never get anything organised other than flights or ferries when I travel, I've only ever gone on one package tour and never again. To get the real feel for a culture you need to get away from resorts and meet the ordinary people to find out what a country is all about. I could happily travel for the rest of my life. Portugal is my favourite European country but I love Spain and France. France is too dear these days whilst Spain and Portugal are very cheap to live especially the latter. |

Umm, I have lost count the amount of times people have recommended Italy!! I'm going to have to give it a go. Pictures of the Amalfi coast look fantastic, ss68. I reckon I could get some great shots there. |
