I know you've been looking for a new phone POI but taking selfies in the mirror just to check the camera
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]A WOMAN who claimed a mystery man crept into her house and took a photo of himself on her phone has remembered that she actually knows the man.
The Herald reported earlier this week that the woman, named only as Susan, was horrified to discover a photo of a stranger on her phone.
But she phoned police on Friday morning to inform them that she does know him and had invited him in for coffee on the day in question.
A police spokesman said tonight: “The man and the woman involved both came in at our request and spoke to investigators . The woman has been really apologetic.
"It appears to be a genuine mistake and she didn’t realise the image was of the man.
“There is no evidence of a malicious or premeditative motive behind her call to police.
“This was purely an awful lapse of memory.
“We have also contacted the man’s employers and assured them that [he] is no longer a
person of interest to us.”
A force spokesman had said earlier: "We’ve had contact from the woman this morning whose phone the image was on, to say she now knows who the man in the picture is and that he was in her house legitimately.
"We are therefore assured this has been a mistake, the man in the photo is not a suspect of any crime and we will be making further contact with this person shortly to learn more."
The woman is not expected to be questioned in connection with any crime, such as wasting police time, and the force has issued an apology to the public.
The spokesman said: "We assume this was a genuine lapse of memory by this woman and we want to apologise to anyone who has been distressed by initially reading this story."
The woman, who is in her 30s and lives in the Barbican, initially raised fears the man had been in her house before because crisps had been going missing.
The image shows her lounge from the dining table with a photo of a man reflected in the mirror.
It remains unclear why the man was using the woman's phone - or who was eating the crisps.
