| Terrible news about Gary Speed, great player would have been the man to take Wales to a international tournament IMO. RIP very sad news indeed. |

| Very shocking news and he seemed to have finally turned Wales around.
Just seen Frank's post and I'm quite shocked by that- he always seemed a confident bloke.
RIP |

| Why would he want to top himself?
He wasn't known as a depressive was he? Can't have had any money worries.
Wait for it to come out that he was having domestic problems or something. |

| A sad loss.
It must have been in a bad place to kill himself. |

| When I read it I alternated between tears in my eyes and anger at what he has done to his family. Very sad situation. |

| Very, very sad. He was a great player and was doing a wonderful job with Wales. Grown men are crying on 5Live. |

| Still can't quite believe this- he spoke to Robbie Savage yesterday and was also on football focus.
I heard on 5Live that he was very close to his Dad and has two sons. Seemed an all round good guy.
I thought the minute's silence, which turned into a minute's applause at Swansea was a nice touch. |

| How appaling for his family. Always liked the way he carried himself. RIP Gary.
Only yesterday there was this on depression in football from the Guardian's Secret Footballer column: Link |

| Quite right FM, but to wander slightly off topic......
I went on a lecture last year and the class system came up and how we have gone from a three-tear class system to a five-tear class system with pro footballers finding a nomadic slot and with mental illness sufferers at the bottom, lower then lower class. Depression is rife amongst upper earners in pro football as they struggle to find the class that they can fit into.
Pro footballers more often have a lower class education but are out of place mixing with their lower paid brothers and cousins so they mix with higher paid classes but, these classes don’t want to know lower class educated people, so those that fall into the “pro footballer” bracket are left out on a limb in a lonely class of their own.
A classic case of money not buying happiness I guess.

| Naaa it's not Nick, we discuss things here like we would in the pub, as long as it's within the law it's no big deal. If you were writing for a national newspaper then there maybe an issue, but this is a forum with just over 100 people using it so in the context of things there's nil issue. |

In which case, I think he was probably killed by the Russian mafia. He owed them lots of money from his failed attempt to introduce heroin to the Welsh international team, their agents and advisors. It is easy to fake a suicide by hanging. I was chatting to a bloke down the pub about all this at lunch time. He seemed to know what he was talking about, he sounded Welsh and his girl-friend was called Olga. Case closed as far as I'm concerned. |

| rumour mill running wild on twitter on the fact the daily star were planning to out him.
someone's death and the circumstances are not a subject i like to gossip on however if that rumour has any truth in it and i guess only time will tell then i hope the daily star ceases to be much like that other scumbag newspaper NOTW.
off topic but the media need regulating even more so now. |
