Even Hitler made the trains run on time.

Life's too short for me to look into the archives but I'm sure when he did his first commentaries a number of posters on here were fairly complimentary. (As opposed to complementary)

What does "knows nothing about football" mean?

Is Gary Neville at the top of the "knows about football" league and Andy Townshend at the bottom with Alan Shearer mid-table just above Ray Wilkins? He's ok. I think local radio try to get people who support the side they're commentating on to present coverage. The Exeter guy is pretty poor and the Torquay bloke whoops a lot. Who would you prefer to be on?

Warnock, Hodges, even lee cooper ,

Guys who know football really, who can give a reasonable and accurate description on what's going on !!!!

Leigh Cooper. Lee Cooper makes jeans. Even Webby knows that. Hitler? On the radio? World's gone mad. Stuart Hall hasn't done any 5 Live for a while, he'd be ace.

That's Sparksy's job (whether he does it is another discussion). Chris Webb is on there to provide local colour and banter.

What a load of fecking bollocks that is. I've never played professional football, never coached and never managed a team. But, I've watched it for over 50 years and don't tell me that supporters know jack shit about football. My TV room at home is bugged. I know this because everytime I make an observation the professional on the commentary team comes out with the same thing a minute later. I can tell if a pass goes astray or if it's good. I can tell if a player is moving well on and off the ball. I can see if a Ref makes a bollocks of a decision or a goal is a scuffer or a blinder. You definately don't have to be a pro or ex pro to observe and have an opinion.

I think the arrogance comes from those who think that punters know feck all about the thing they are watching. Just because you proved you knew feck all by getting the sack for being shit don't take it out on everyone else.

I don't want to manage a team Dane so why would I go out and get one. "I've forgotton more than you mate"?????? Is that something to brag about? How do you know you've forgotten more than me, I might have forgotten everything.

I think you meant more than I will ever know. That's where the arrogance comes in. You do not have to have worked in football as a professional to know something about the sport. The so called experts always think joe public knows nothing. It's the keeping this myth alive thing that is their only out when they prove they didn't know as much as they thought they did whilst riding in the taxi on the way out of town clutching their P45.

It's not about professionals knowing more. You confess to never playing the game. So how you would you know the ins and outs of it ? Simple answer. You know shit all. And if you learnt what you do know know from watching argyle for 50 years I don't think we need to go on.
