Wa-hey! I Think I've Been Banned From PASOTI!!!

I'm afraid to say that I wasn't 100% sure whether the accusations made on here of Soviet-style censorship and control on PASOTI were true. The circumstantial evidence seemed to point that way, but on the other hand I wasn't posting there before ATD was formed and hadn't seen things for myself. I always try to remember that you should be careful in taking the claims of one side in a bitter dispute as gospel.

To that end I suppose I've been testing the claims, by deliberately posting on PASOTI in a manner that might be provocative to the Reluctant Bidder Faction, but which would never result in a ban on any other forum I've ever seen - including the hyper-sensitively moderated Digital Spy.

Well I certainly know the score now. If any Plymouth fan happens to read this and is misled by the sometimes strident tone here into believing that the accusations of paranoia made against this site must be true, I urge you to try and read to the end of this post. I have nothing to gain by traducing PASOTI or Newell, Webb and co - after all, in the final analysis I'm not directly affected by what is happening at PAFC. Whatever issues there may be at my club - and almost all clubs have their issues - I sink to my knees and praise the Lord that the deeply sinister behaviour at the core of your fanbase is only a problem for my personal sense of what is right and wrong and doesn't involve my beloved ECFC.

Anyway, now you're sitting comfortably...


This afternoon, I made a post on the PASOTI thread "PCC Report regarding landowning issues at Home Park" (http://www.pasoti.co.uk/talk/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=78758) questioning the Reluctant Bidder's claim that the new stand would bring in £1-2K in commercial revenue.

I'll believe it when I see it.

A short while later I returned to the thread, only to find that my post had been deleted. I reposted the message and shortly afterwards X-Isle and Newell replied with the following puerile comments.

Fortunately for me they had merely succeeded in making a repeat deletion of my initial post a little more problematic for whoever had originally removed it, as the flow of the debate would then look extremely suspicious.

Given that X-Isle had abandoned all attempts at his usual cod-poetic erudition, it was obvious he was rattled, so I made a reply asking PAFC's other champagne socialist how he felt about something I'd heard concerning the Reluctant Bidder's right-wing attitude to public services.

This post was summarily removed without explanation. I reposted it twice more and it was removed each time - again with no explanation. As no-one from the site administration sent me a PM regarding my post, I used the thread itself to query the reason for the deletion.

In response to which I let him know that by implying I am an anarchist in order to insult and discredit me, he had posted something as close, if not closer, to the legal definition of a libellous statement as, "an imputation which is likely to lower a person in the estimation of right-thinking people" as the statements I had made about James Brent. I also took the opportunity to mention that my father is a QC.

Fortunately my father happens to be a QC, so while I have no wish to sue or be sued, at least legal costs are not an issue.

Almost immediately both that reply and Newell's initial post were deleted.

I followed that with what looks as if it will be my final message on PASOTI, responding to the deletion of my defence against the earlier accusation of making a libellous comment about James Brent.

That is utterly ridiculous. Even if there was any sort of question about my initial post, my second post only asked for clarification on the reason why the first post was deemed libellous. Absolutely nothing in that post was remotely libellous under any reasonable defintion of the law whatsoever.

The next thing I knew I had been logged out and was unable to log back in. It then became clear that not only were the closing exchanges between myself, X-Isle, Newell and the "Site Manager" deleted, but that the entire fourth page of the thread had been removed as well. Strangely enough this fourth page contained a number of posts from the likes of ejh and others, all making powerful arguments against the credibility of the Reluctant Bidder's claims concerning the future commercial revenue the stand would provide for PAFC.

I don't think any further explanation is necessary.

I have screenshots which I'll try to put up at some point although I won't post  screenshots or desciptions of  the comments Newell claimed to be libellous just yet. I'm sure they aren't, but i believe Newell and/or his cronies have made spurious threats of legal action against ATD in the past, so it would be better to wait until I've checked 100% and know how the mods feel.

I am sure they will claim that you have just been suspended whilst they discuss the issue with the other mods. I don't know what input the other mods have - very little I imagine - but I doubt that they will speak out against their master.

Newell has threatened me with legal action on so many occasions I have lost count. His solicitor had my phone number and was going to call me on numerous occasions - but surprisingly the call never came. In my time at in the mod room at ATD we never once received any credible legal correspondence from Newell as I doubt any legal representative would have anything to do with him.

He claimed once that his solicitor had told him that he could sue ATD for defamation of character and he could expect to recieve £100,000 - but he would settle for £75,000. Funnily enough that solicitors letter never arrived either......

The alleged libel is against Brent, not Newell.

I don't believe the statement is libelous as IMO  it doesn't fulfil any of the necessary criteria. It refers to hearsay about Brent's personal opinion of the best way to run a public service, without suggesting that he intends to take any action based on that belief in any official capacity. It was intended to try and get X-Isle to justify his ludicrous and convoluted position of supposedly holding progressive views (see avatar of Che Guevara) while at the same time effusively praising a man with beliefs that appear to be the direct opposite.

Since such right-wing views would (unfortunately) be applauded by many in the Government itself, it is difficult to see how they could be defamatory, unless Brent had always portrayed himself to be a socialist (!!!) and therefore accusing him of holding more conservative opinions on public services caused him to be thought of as a hypocrite.

Still, better to be safe than sorry.

Whenever newell needs a reason for a banning he always uses the same 'libel' excuse even though he has no idea of the meaning of 'libel'. He judges everyone by his own standards and believes that if he doesn't understand what 'libel' means then nobody will understand.

More repeats than UK Gold. It's because you mocked him the other day. It's HIS website now and it'll fall apart once Brent leaves in a few years and people realise just how ridiculous it was for a fan forum to support and provide good PR for a chairman of a football club. I'm not for one second stating that fans should constantly criticise their club at every given opportunity but to cheerlead an organisation without question is at best a very dangerous thing to do.

Libel is hilarious - it's used to silence people. I've seen some silly things said on here but none of those things would bother any right thinking person. On pasoti though - you get 'removed by admin' edits to posts and any one who hasn't seen the original post is then led to believe that you've done something outrageously bad.

X-isle's a tw@t. I just don't understand him at all. He seems to believe he's a one eyed man in a land of the blind when in fact, he's as bad as Newell in the cheerleading of St Jimmy of Brent. I'd imagine when Brent reads this stuff, he cringes. It's very creepy behaviour - in the sycophantic sense.

I am not comfortable with the way the club [and to a certain extent PASOTI] is going. And to still think,there are many-many Argyle fans out there who are totally unaware of the huge divisions that remain and will continue to do so among the two rival camps.

It is not right and proper that free speech and/or debate is shouted down over there,a person has the right to say if they disagree with views held by many on PASOTI,not face abuse and/or threats etc-etc. Yes,i do look in on PASOTI and this bitching still goes on to this day.

If one can be banned from posting constructive views on PASOTI [that go against the grain,or run of the mill],then how long will it be before those that now control PASOTI get people banned from attending actual Argyle games. Surely,that would be an unacceptable outcome if it were to ever happen.
