I think you will find that is sort of thing is happening with most sports these days. Wait for it to become popular with the people, then take it over and charge more, which in turn puts it out of the reaches of the poorest and into the hands of the richer folk. Then wait for the people to start following another sport before taking that over. Thats partly why imo rugby and cricket have become more popular in recent times. Some motorsport classes are going through the same thing with the smaller classes are seeing an increase in attendances as opposed to the decrease for the major classes.
