| Tuomas Rannankari is a 22 year old Finnish left back, he's played occasionally at International Level. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Martin John is a 24 year old CB, although he only appears to have played for the ridiculously named 'Ottawa Fury', Newport County and an unpronounceable side in Spanish Div 3. | After today we'll never hear of them ever again. Why do Argo bother with triallists? |

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] Didnt go much on the finn. Fine going forward but not much of a defender. Martin John looked good but need to see him against maybe yeovil or mk. |

| Rannankari looked one of our best players, interlinked very well with Purrington down the left and was involved in most of our first half chances.
Martin John whilst not exactly doing anything wrong looked average and no better than what we already have. No threat going forward either. |

| mis read freathy original comment thought he was refering to pre season trialists. soz pepsi.
we dont do very well with pre-season trialists maybe competition too fierce but during the season trialists will work harder to gain contracts maybe whereas in the summer they can be more choosy wherre they go perhaps ? |

| Yep, Friio and Larrieu came for an initial trial and then signed contracts after that. I think then it can be said we've got a fair record with trialists (Friio, Seip, Akos, Blanchard, Halmosi, Arnason, Timar, Larrieu) only one of them and arguably the least succesful one (Arnason) was in pre-season. Perhaps there's something in Elias's most recent post.
I really liked the look of Rannankari though- been capped by Finland twice too and seemed to be better than what we already have. |

| Talking of Seip I see he's just signed for the Aussie A-League Champions Central Coast Mariners on a 3 year deal. Seip joined us just after the season started (after a trial with Spartak Moscow I think). |

Like i said good going forward but alot of missed placed paces around the back, and in the first half whilst at left back got caught watching a few times and was easily turned by the elburton winger in thier very few chances at pushing forward. But was his first game, i believe he is here for a month so will wait and see his progression |

Well i think against weaker opposition its very easy to stand out more, and also as for it being pointless, thats a comment of someone who doesnt understand football or players. Why do you think every club no matter thier size play opposition from all levels during pre-season. Match Fitness is a key aspect, every player will tell you there is a huge differance between fitness and match fitness, why do you think most injured players eased back into matches. Also its a good opportunity for the manager to try new formations or players in differant positions. |

Unfortunately I think its you who has a misconceived idea about the value of these matches in assessing trialists.Elburton Villa are so far below Argyle in the football pyramid that no benefit fitness wise or playing wise can be obtained from playing opposition as lowly as this. From a fitness point of view the Argyle players would hardly have broken into a sweat, it was a stroll in the park for the defenders where's the benefit in that. From a playing point of view the gap in class between professional players and part time average amateurs is so vast as to be meaningless. You need to play like with like, not chalk and cheese, the forthcoming matches against Yeovil and MK Dons will give a much more accurate picture of how Argyle are doing as they prepare for a season in league two,not pointless matches against the likes of Elburton Villa. |
