Because it's being privatised and the easiest way the Government can do that is to try and dupe the staff into taking a little lump sum of shares. For £300m, the Government could make billions. That's in exchange for losing a profit making asset! worth billions.
Staff will have to keep those shares for three years - they'll only be able to cash them in after that period when, in all probability, they'll be worth much less.
If you exchange the Government with Brent and Royal Mail with PAFC, most people on here would be shitting feathers.

I am a dual citizen (although what that has to do with it, I'm not sure).  However, I am NOT amazed that a Tory government is against public ownership.

Yes the US Postal Service is nationalized - and it continues to lose money with a resultant cutback in services, and price rises whenever they can get them approved.

I wonder if Socialist Boy has long drawn out debates about the privatisation of Royal Mail with Jimmy B and about the fatcats who are going to make a nice fat pile of money out of it?

And for what it's worth I'm totally against the privatisation of the Royal Mail. I just think it's rich that Webb can be so militant on one hand and such a turncoat scab on the other  

Since I have left school we have sold the North sea gas, council houses, billions of pounds worth of military building and land for development, the dockyards, all the utilities, the gold reserves, peoples pensions, and here comes the best bit, WE ARE ABSOLUTELY FOOKIN SKINT! 
But hey why shouldn't over privileged Tory boy wanker property developers not make a profit on all the money that they have stolen off us the people via the banking system.
