Ashley Barnes scored a winner at Molyneux a couple of seasons back. That didn't make us better than Wolves and what I saw today does not make me believe Ingerlund are better than Spain, on another day the same players would have been whooped.

Credit where it's due they got stuck in though, great commitment. But the only way a competition will be won playing like that is the Greece way, and that leaves one as cold and limp as the way they 'belted out' the national anthem (NOT!). The sickening thing is though, that result, irrespective of performance, will be used by the media to hype them up once again as world beaters only to knock 'em down again when the inevitable flop comes to pass. Capello will have the head of a root vegetable and the inquest will commence as to how "when a tournament comes around the [insert choice of Germans, Spanish or Italians] always come to their peak".

Another summer of hype then, followed by elimination and random foreign looking fellas getting beaten up and Mercedes/BMW's being scratched. Someone put it perfectly earlier - Ingerlund represents all the very worst of this country. Players, media, supporters, commercialism. No amount of smoke screen about poppies will cover it up.

I'm presently watching the festival of rememberence and none of them are so much as fit to wipe the floor afterwards.

No one is saying England are better than Spain, just that it's rather nice for us to beat them.

Another thing I don't get is the 'Viva Espana' thing. Wanting Spain to win because our players are overpaid primadonas. Unlike those good working class lads Xavi, David Villa, etc, eh?

At least they tend to stay loyal to a club and work their way through from the youth team, they don't tend to forget where they came from.

At least they (tend to) steer clear of the 'celebrity culture', drunken bar fighting, wife swapping, granny knocking shop visits, drink driving, drug test forgetting etc.

At least they play with a merited swagger, in a class that deserves pride to be shown in it.

At least fat bald EDL tw@ts in skin tight replica shirts don't hero worship them like the modern day gods they're rightfully not.

And on the Barnes/Gallagher front - I was too p1ssed to care at the time, so the fact the point still remains valid even if the player was wrong leaves me unphased by the error.

Which particular player who started against Spain do you think are prima-dona's then? I saw 11 committed englishment work thier socks off and play selflessly as a team. First time for I while I felt pride at the national teams performance. Sometimes you need to forget about your own prejudices and look at it objectively.

This was 11 dedicated professionals working hard. The dickheads were absent on saturday, lets give the players who played some credit.

Erm, give the players that played some credit?. I did..........

"Credit where it's due they got stuck in though, great commitment"

And yes the arch dickheads were not in the squad, well not all of them, the vomitting on his mistress one was there. But they'll be back as quick as their idiotic sending off ban clears and their 'politically expedient' non selection policy passes. And that's the whole problem, no more heroes anymore, dislikable people get their places back ASAP almost as a matter of right, while the 'heads down' hard workers get dropped. You can tell me to like them, you can tell me it's prejudice, but if someone has been turned stone cold by a group of people it'll take a lot more than one uber defensive, creative void performance to win them round again.

Heck i'm sure there are some very nice, hard working and committed conservatives, some lovely traffic wardens, some bankers with a heart of gold but when the group as a whole shits so frequently on 'one' then 'one' can't help but feel f*cked off with the whole lot of them.

I'm not closed off to the idea of investing something in Ingerlund in the future, but so much would have to change it's not something I can see happening. They could be 11 angels, all giving it 100%, all salt of the earth lads giving most of their income to charity, great. Unfortunatley that won't change the EDL muppets who attatch themselves to our flag like stubborn shit stains, that won't change the rampant naked commercialism that jumps all over football around a tournament and it won't change the media's pathetic and predictable paper selling rollercoaster of hype 'em up then knock 'em down.

Anyway, we'll see how much of a renaissance is occurring tonight won't we. As great as the work ethic and commitment was (as I credited on the day Wink ) 11 men behind the ball won't win friends or influence people against a lesser national side. You can't play like an away team at home every game, they'll be expected to produce dynamic creative attacking football tonight, we'll see.

Greece managed OK in 2004.

As ALSO acknowledged earlier Wink.

Whilst that was great for Greece it was turgid and apart from that shocking European Cup campaign by that iron curtain team (Steua was it?) in the 80's I can't think of another example where it's ever worked, and it's certainly never been respected.

Besides, look what it did to their economy Shocked.

As a one off counter tactic, it worked very well. They need more in their locker, we'll see what they pull out tonight.

I think support should be based on the team and the team only. I agree that england supporters can by wankers (but so can argyle's, it doesnt make me want us to lose). In reality, when england go abroad now, our supporters our well received. We have come along way. As for the media, ignore them. Buy better quality newspapers (anyone thick enough to buy a tabloid deserves to read cack anyway). A general point, not accusing you of being a sun reader!

As for your "no more heroes anymore" I give you Scott Parker. An automatic choice now, it is hard to think of another player who embodies the good aspects of english football quite as well as Parker.

Another game, another win.

Another largely 2nd string 11 too.

1-0 but could & should have been 3 or 4 with some sitters missed.

Sweden our bogey side, too.

Onwards and upwards. Very Happy jocolor

Fair one, shame it's been left so late to recognise his contribution. For years successive managers have wrestled how to squeeze the scouse bar brawler and the Chelsea adulterer into a midfield, overlooking Scottie without so much as a second glance. It's never the best 'team' that gets picked, it's the best collection of available 'names' at any one time.

Didn't see tonights game so won't comment on it, busy working. Lowest neuvaux Wembley attendance noted though, guess i'm not alone in being turned off by it all.

Of course when we played Fallon on his own up front and the performances and results were awful, it was all OK. #just saying
