both maidstone & aldershot went under before TV money took off & footballs popularity with it.

for example aldershots crowds in 1990 were awful 1.5k max now they get 25% more than that !

Think you are right, and crowds to match, just after the war when there were thousands of returning soldiers with nothing else to do.
