| Why are some of our politicians so keen on getting this bill through ?Why would any gay couple want to get married in any religious establishment? All religious texts forbids such practice.Strange ideas the loons that run this country. Civil partnerships is what they have, not much different than a marriage surely? |

Marriage is the union of a man and a woman for the purpose of procreation and the delivering of a stable environment for those children to develop in, it's a religious thing which has morphed into some form of social covenant. Now me, I couldn't care less if the Big Gay Bears want to bugger themselves raw or the carpet munchers want to strap on and get friendly, why the dopey feckers have to crave marriage or why the politicians are so feckless they have to crawl up the collective arse of the gay vote escapes me, they should all man the feck up. |

| Keeps them all from talking about the things that matter, mind you there are a lot of gay couples that have feck all better to do than find devout Christians that own B&Bs and then start court proceedings when they won't let them have a double bed! Get a feckin life. |

So not true any longer! And the Biblical justification is flimsy to say the least. I'm sure that the Gay community is as evenly divided as the rest of the country between those that would want the option to marry and those who couldn't care less. |

| I'm sure they are not Knecht but not for the reasons of marriage or religion but for reasons of equality. |

| If they want a Church wedding and the Church is willing to carry it out, let em get on with it. Perhaps a female Bishop could officicate. |

Care to qualify which bit you think is "so not true" ? Various bits of it but the main part of your statement I question is whether marriage provides "a stable environment". The divorce rate is rising (though, if I remember rightly, it actually fell last year) and the marriage rate is falling. A substantial number of children grow up in divided families. |

| I suppose it depends on how religious you are. Gay couples could be religious and want a church wedding rather than a civil partnership.
If the bible is going to be taken literally then most of us on here are fecked anyway for the things we've said, and to take a book literally that doesn't recognise dinosaurs as existing and says women were created from the rib of Adam is more than a tad narrow minded to put it politely.
There are many gay clergymen as well which challenges the view that man shall not lay with man etc.
Children should be taught that there are different kinds of marriages as well. It's crazy to teach them that men and women get married and men who live with men, or women who live with women are co-habiting to keep the bills down.
I do find it strange that some gay couples want to adopt children though. Surely when you make the decision to live with a partner of the same sex then you have accepted a life without children?
That's probably an old fashioned view to some but I feel that having children is one of the perks of the job as it were. If you love somebody of the same sex then you are never going to be able to have your own children together which to me should be a consideration when deciding your life path.
I'm all for same sex marriages and equal rights except for when it comes to having children. I believe that you can't have your cake and eat it. |

Me, I think people should be allowed to do what they want, when they want, getting married where they want. |

Most straight people that have church weddings do so for the white dress and the day out. To bar gay people from marriage on that basis is purely wrong. I also find that the more Christian "right" you are the less forgiving you are. It doesn't sit comfortably with me. A neighbour of ours volunteers at the church and is always amazed to tidy up after social clubs and find that the paper of choice for the clergy is the Daily Mail. It must be the tolerance and acceptance of others I guess |

I'm with you Charlie. Well, not with you, y'know. Not in the biblical sense. Not in this life anyway. Erm... I guess when you think about it, your average parents with 2.4 children will probably spend 10's of thousands of £££'s bringing their children up. Many of us on here will know what a drain they are on your finances. The vast majority of gay couples don't have that outlay. As far as gays bringing up children goes, in principal the issue for me there is you are basically condemning the child to a a lifetime of ridicule. It's just not fair on the kid. It'd be like being the ginger obese kid with acne and beer bottle national health glasses, x10. Kids can be very cruel, and the playground is an unforgiving place. I agree with Jock really. Not putting a child through that should be a sacrifice you just have to take on the chin. |
