I have never been a Fletcher supporter. Like many after we stayed up last year, I thought that yes maybe he deserves a longer crack at the job in hand. However it was plainly obvious from the word go that Brent wasnt interested in the football side of things. He's a money man and Argyle were simply his vehicle to make money off the back of. After seeing 'the interview' today it strikes me just how lost and hung out to dry Fletcher has been. He was so out of his depth and obviously crying out for some support on the training ground, experience in the dugout and transfer market it beggars belief why this wasnt given to him. My question is who is accountable? Somebody on the board must/ should have advised Brent that Fletcher was sinking and needed support???? Surely???? The lasting image of him in pieces trying to conduct himself in a respectful manner is extremely sad. Again, I say I am glad he has gone, but sending him out to tell the press himself is totally disgraceful.

I hate the way I now feel about this club. Used to wear my shirt with pride, now it merely represents disgrace.

See my post 'the speed of the sacking'. Regardless of his record I think the way the axe fell was very unfair. He shouldn't have been sacked just before being sent out to face the press.

As for giving him support, it depends on whether he was willing to accept help. The flip-flopping over the DoF role suggests to me that maybe he didn't want outside help. In a way I wouldn't mind Ro staying on in a supporting role as long as we have an experienced man at the helm. Maybe a better initial appointment after Reid went would have been to have Fletch as assistant to someone else, however I think Brent was just looking for the cheapest appointment possible, hence Fletch and Ro getting the job.

There was talk on Pasoti of Fletcher being stubborn and not wanting any help, which did appear to be the case whenever he spoke about mentors or DOF.

For me the blame has to ultimately be laid at Brents door for still not having found a football savvy board, unless you count iddesleigh green who has served on a previous Argyle board.

I was surprised that Fletcher mentioned possibly playing again because if he still feels that he's up to playing then why didn't he ever pull on the boots in an emergency?

Several times we had less than the maximum number of permitted subs and have been short in midfield quite a few times. I'm sure he said that on the spur of the moment because he surely can't be anywhere near match fitness, even for league 2.

Only gossip I'm sure but I seem to remember a whisper at the time of taking on managerial responsibilities he wanted more dosh to continue as a player as well (not an unreasonable POV) but when that was not forthcoming he hung his boots up.
