PostSubject: Giving up smoking   Giving up smoking EmptyTue Jan 01, 2013 9:21 pm

Has anybody done this recently? I'm giving this serious consideration and was wondering if anybody has any advice, tips or tricks that would make this a little bit easier?

You know you want to help, after all you could be saving someone's life lol!

I think Tring has gone down the electronic route.
Good luck, it had to be the most anti social habit ever

I gave up nearly two years ago

There should be a nurse you can see at your doctors which really helps
I had patchs and a holder that you put a small cartridge in which contains nicotine , I did not believe it would be any good but it really worked for me, and a bit of will power of course

If I can pack it up anyone can I smoked for over fifty years

Good luck

E cig has worked for me .

I use Jacvapour. The cost works out at about a quarter of normal cigarettes so don't be put off by the initial outlay of about 80 quid as it will last for months.
Any more advice please ask as it's a bit confusing, knowing what to get, at first.

ps All you get is liquid nicotine vapour. As far as the medical people can see, it is harmless as there's no chemicals and no burning. Nicotine is addictive but not harmful. Plus e cigs have no laws against their use in public places.
Unless someone finds a problem with them, they are clearly the future for addicted smokers and kids wanting to vape rather than smell like an ashtray.
The nicotine can be vaped in strengths from very high down to zero.

A mate had some type of E-cig which cost him £40-£50 in the Market. It looked like a big pen. You can also get cheaper Ecigs (that look like fags) for about £20.

Like Tring says, there's no rules on them so you can "smoke" in a pub/ restaurant etc. I think he said he spent about £40 a week on fags and was fag free for 6 weeks so was saving a bit of money as well.

It's worth looking for reviews and doing some research . as the technology is developing all the time. Some are much better than others so do your homework.
Now I'm vaping, I could even face going to watch Argyle, when this current shambles is just a painful memory.

I know................. I'm naaaaaaaaaat a praaaaaaaaaaaaaper faaaaaaaaaaaan ! jocolor

Nicotine not harmful!!!

Soak 20 smokes in a glass of water, say overnight, then drink the water. It could well kill you. A small child may die if it eats a cigarette or two.

You can vape weed as well, best not to do it in a public place though.

No Tringy, dear old thing. You said that nicotine was not harmful. Think about dosage.

I'm going to try tomorrow Pete.

Was going to start today but I'll be on the lash tonight so a waste of time trying!

Lock myself away tomorrow in my nicotine stained bedsit and see how it goes (maybe add a few more stains by having a Thomas each time I get the nicotine urge)!

If I can do one day, I can do two etc

Just have to find my e-cigarette and buy some capsules as a backup!

Stay away from the pub for a few (say 4) days.

I read somewhere it takes 21 days to change a habit.

I'll let you know how I'm getting on!

My mate swears by some sort of tablet from the doc but he said they take away all cravings for everything for a couple of weeks and that it's quite an odd feeling of not giving a shit about anything but once that's kicked out it's all plain sailing. I may give it a bash myself.

Are you talking about Champix? My mrs tried that, giving up the cigs was really easy, she said she just didn't want a cig whilst following the course of tablets.

Trouble is one of the side effects of the tablets meant that she became even more irrational and mental than normal. She stopped taking the tablets and started smoking again almost immediately.

Anyway I've made it so far today without having a fag.

That's almost half a day lol.

good luck with the challenge, its just like managing argyle!

Almost 3 days in and it is possibly the hardest thing I've ever done. At times I could quite easily of killed someone. But no cigs smoked and I'm not up on a murder charge lol.

It is very very hard stick with it mate you are doing well.

On a daily basis put the money you normally spend on tobacco in a jar and then count it once a week
I racked up a large wedge that's a good feeling.
