John Ward appointed as DOF

Bastard I was just going to do that! Radio Devon twatter had it, right sack Carl and get on with it.

Doesn't actually say that he's been appointed.If he is,personally i welcome his arrival-good football man,lot of experience and some previous success at various levels.Perfect man to take over should results take a dive again under Fletcher,it'll be interesting to see exactly what his role and job description will be.

I see the finance director has resigned as well.

Surely if there are no plans for him to take over we would have appointed somebody without managerial aims, not somebody who managed until a few weeks ago.

Sextone said something along the lines of that "the DOF is a past manager who doesn't intend to manage again but would be prepared to act as a caretaker if a change of manager happens" (I paraphrase).

I don't see why any decent new manager wouldn't be prepared to work with Ward as his DOF, the separation of the two roles is quite a modern concept by all accounts. One office (as in contracts, scouting co-ordinator, policy setter) and one head coach (training, match selection). It's a nice idea for a set up imo, it just needs getting rid of Fletcher for it to work.

Could be the BBC being a bit premature and have re-hashed Errington's Herald article from today. Seems a fairly decent manager and has done well on tight budgets. As Greensam states, the only fly in the ointment is Fletcher.

Hopefully Fletcher will just be a glorified head coach who HAS to follow Ward's instructions.

At least he's been around football management for years, and should know what he's talking about. Will Fletcher take any notice? Will he understand him?
