Desperate Dan and Korky no more,eh.Very sad, there used to be the Dandy,Beezer,Topper and Beano when i was a bhey,i think the Beano is still about but not sure about the others.Changing times i suppose,i see the Dandy is still going to be online, has to compete against everything on the internet though-at their peak,i guess the old comics only had themselves to battle against for sales, there wasn't much else around.Rather like the saturday night football papers really-i used to drool in anticipation about the arrival of the football herald at our local shop but if you can go onto the internet and get dozens of different reports, comment and opinions within 10 minutes of the end of a game,no contest, even in hotbeds like Birmingham and Newcastle.Still sad to see what were once pillars of everyday life go,though.

Dandy was my first comic before moving onto the Beano and then onto Tiger. It's progress(?) I guess!

I used to get The Topper. It was one of my early glimpses of how people are manipulated by the press.

I was looking at the letters page one day - I guess I was about 7 yrs old - and I noticed that all the letters were signed by people with names like 'A Conn' or 'I Fule' or Charlie Cheat etc. Even as young as I was, I knew that was really a con. I've never recovered.

I used to get the Beano, The Dandy as well so that was alright then.

I was supposed to like Bunty, but much preferred the Beano and the Dandy. Including the annuals and the summer specials.

Who'd be a kid nowadays - all that teenage angst at the age of eight. What's needed is a good dose of Desperate Dan and Minnie the Minx, together with a substantial dollop of Winnie the Pooh. In fact, I think we could all do with that.
