Much the same at Lidl, common bastards. I go to the one at Transit way, Swilly and Woolwell quite often, just to watch the commomers you understand. Their 29p yogurts are some of the best.

You should go to plymstock all my customers deny going in that down market supermarket . But when you look at all the empty wine bottles there from lidls

Their christmas party food aint bad

My servants tell me that the chocolate in Lidl is rather tasty. Maybe I'm paying them too much if they can afford such frippery.

Aldi is crap, or at least the one near me is. Doesn't have baskets for a little shop and they expect you to take your shopping straight away over to another counter to pack while they serve the next customer.

It's not easy to take a pram if they don't have baskets, and I wouldn't leave the pram outside.

And they say Aldi is the friendly supermarket

Aldi score really badly on how they treat their staff - or at least they did a very few years ago and I suspect they haven't improved either here or in Germany. They used to have a monitor checking how quickly they moved customers through the check-out and if they didn't perform they were in trouble. Hence the no packing at the check-out and the hurrying through.

I hate to break this to you, Knecht, but - in common with huge swathes of the private sector, admittedly - it's rare to find a supermarket chain with a good record for employment relations.

A few years ago, I did Highway 61. Travelling through the southern states, we visited loads of small towns (mostly in search of one or the other of Robert Johnson's graves), and they all looked pretty much the same. Round the edges, block after block of Walmart, Taco Bell, some cheap shoe chain, Walgreens, Macbleddydonalds, KFC and the like, with the occasional bank (with drive in cashpoints so you didn't even have to get out of the car), solicitor, funeral director. Next layer in was the big, beautiful houses, manicured lawns, private security, the lot. Next came the poorer areas, and then the old downtown. Which was in every case almost completely empty, the shops boarded up and the people gone.

And that, ladies and gents, is what the supermarkets are going to leave us with.

But did they have a monorail?

D'oh!

No.

(Although many of these little towns had the most beautiful libraries. Gawd bless Andrew Carnegie.)

I like all supermarkets they are truly fantastic everything you need under one roof and reasonably priced not like these little shops full of doddery old dears who can't make their frigging mind up about what sort of loaf to buy! and after you fight past all the old girls telling you they are eight five, you get to the counter only to find they dont sell what you want!! just fill town centres with supermarkets ffs.
