| The expected turnout is 15%
It has cost an absolute fortune (the postal costs alone would make your head explode) and the winner will land a quango job on £80k+ a year.
It's a complete and utter White Elephant and makes our PASB thing look like the UN. |

| Indeed, if you vote for anyone though, vote independent, party politics should have butt all to do with policing. |

| Have not heard anything from any candidate, do not know any of them, so can only vote on party lines as you know broadly where they stand. |

| It's funny but even the party political candidates seem to be trying to play down their party ties. As if they could if push came to shove. Apart from anything else it asking something for an individual tp put up £5000 as a deposit and find funds for campaigning. Only someone fairly well off could afford to do it.
Anyway it's a bit like the GasBoard thing as Argyle ie it's not needed when you've got the Trust. The present system regarding the police could have been tweaked to make it more visible and more aware and accountable to local areas. |

Ideally yes but it is unavoidable. The moment an election starts it becomes political (even if it isnt party political). And given the role of the police in various political disputes they themselves are politicised whether they like it or not. But given that the winner will not be in control of operational policing I don't really see the point of it at all. |

| .......especially when the present police authorities comprise elected councillors anyway providing a broad spread of politics and experience. A spread lost overnight by electing ONE person to do the same job. And to think, the £76,000,000 it's costing us is being justified on grounds of democracy - it's less democratic and less representative than what it's replacing.
And Pete, if you insist on going on party lines don't fall into the trap of believing the Tories are the party of law and order, that's a title they like to give themselves. They're the party of run things to the bone, the party of 'we know better than you plebs'. If you think no money and a sneery patronising attitude will drive any improvement, think again. |

Voted Lib Dem as they appear to be harmless, with Labour as second choice, have only ever voted Tory once in my life and there were special circumstances. |

| I voted although I must say I was suprised there was no 'programme' pushed through the door regarding policies etc of candidates.
The right to vote has been hard won by our fore fathers & many people forget that. Whilst on the face of it our vote counts for little at least we do get a say.

If you don't vote you can't moan I suppose. |

| All the regions are having a civilian responsible for handling the budget for the police in that area and as the kind of watchdog I suppose.
Somebody else could explain it better and put some meat on the bones, but it's been met with general apathy. |

I deleted it... Actually read the small print and worked out it was a regional thing and not a national one, therefore rendering the point of my post redundant. However... Glad to hear you voted, Jock! |

However... Glad to hear you voted, Jock! This is the official job role: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]My man, Angus Mcpherson, has been elected with a turnout of 14.68%. Not exactly a stampede to vote! |
