It is the year 2001 and Mr Paul Sturrock has taken over at Home park with the remit of getting Argyle promoted within 2 seasons. The squad he has inherited is the 2012/13 one [miraculously, some would say mercifully, sent on a journey back through time] and he has been given a reasonable budget, by fourth division standards,to wheel and deal. How many of the current squad would survive the Luggy cull? I would say that only Blanchard,Berry,Young and Bhasera would stand any sort of a chance.

I would add Nelson and possibly Williams to that small list. Another one might be Griffiths but it is a bit too soon to say with him. Bit hard on Wotton who was actually there but I don't think the player of today would be.

Cole might survive, but only as a 2nd choice keeper. Other than that the handful listed above seem about right.

I did think about Cole but I just can't rate the man. Everytime the ball comes into the box he is nowhere to be seen when it's in the air. Good shot stopper but in this league you have to command the 6 yard box given the number of crosses there are. Our keepers of old would have taken most of them before anyone got their head on it.

Have to say this is an interesting question.

Looking at it another way - here's a sample Luggy team from that time:

Larrieu

Worrell
Coughlan
Wotton
Beswetherick

McGlinchey
Friio
Adams
Phillips (M)

Evans
Stonebridge

How many of today's squad would get into that line-up? I can't think of a case for any of them.

I'd add Nelson, Young & Lecointe as players for the future. It's been hard for them as youngsters. With a good first team squad they wouldn't yet be in the firing line proper.
