It's from the advert for Aviva car insurance when Paul Whitehouse played the part of an Argyle fan who travels the country to support the team. He drives a lot in the advert so cheaper car insurance is important to him as what he saves on that, he can spend on petrol. In short, it's a work of fiction but uses the loyalty and support of a football fanatic as a premise to advertise inexpensive car insurance. Paul shouts "green army" in the advert and this used to be played prior to kick off at Argyle as a bit of a joke.
It is used as an insult on here although I'm not sure why being a loyal fan and supporting the club all over the country is something to be scorned.
Like I said, hypocrisy from people who claim superiority over others.
Perfect example from the Burnley match thread.

Burnley away where we've not won since 1973. We went 1-0 down to a Championship side and equalised in normal time and then didn't concede in the extra 30 minutes. We lost 3-2 on penalties. Nonsensical posts from hypocrites. Burnley Reserves and Pompey Youth have given the Avivas their finest errrrrm three and a half hours + |

It would only need explaining to you...
You are a hypocrite because...
You moan about Tringy (me) and others complaining about Newell and Webb, and yet you moan about Tringy all the time.
You complain about people being abusive and yet you are abusive quite often yourself.
You object to phrases such as "You don't get it" and then you use the phrase yourself.
The list could go on and on...
I honestly don't think you have a clue what you have written half the time.
Hypocrite. Summed up quite perfectly, Ricks.... |

Have you got that through that dense skull that can't seem to comprehend the most basic of facts sometimes?
I know this is a "football" website but 'football' has many different facets. Commentating on what formation we should be using etc is pointless, and as with most "football matters", half the people who bang on about it clearly don't know what they are talking about. Since I don't get to too many games it would be wrong of me to chat too much about that side of things. If I did, you would only be moaning about it. Comprende?
However... Other aspects I have my opinion on. Anytime you want my view, feel free to ask. You might learn something.
And, I will keep talking about Newell's (and to a lesser extent Webb's) cancerous effect on the club and your whinging won't be stopping me.
As for jumping on the bandwagon... Hardly... I was one of those that got the wagon rolling in the first place. But then - as you have admitted - you don't know your internet Argyle history, do you?
And yes.. Your son started this thread, and yes... I brought you into it because he was talking about hypocrites and you are one of the biggest, so your claim that I wasn't addressing the subject matter is absurd.
Got it yet?
Bang on again, Ricks... Only thing I'd disagree with there, is that SG actually was the one to start the insults & attacks, which in turn led to him picking up the 'boringbloke' tag. |

| For me, Chris Webb's post is indicative of someone too closely aligned with the club. I don't know or care whether he was a fan 15 years ago, but I just can't take it seriously. The whole "it's my nature to be positive and inspire others" stuff makes me want to puke.
Newell on the other hand is really quite a nutjob. If he wants to play the victim card over Peggy, then he's even creepier than I thought. |

Only thing I'd disagree with there, is that SG actually was the one to start the insults & attacks, which in turn led to him picking up the 'boringbloke' tag. I may have called him 'boring' first......................... terrible insult I know. I was just ending up losing the will to go on when reading his posts. It's all my fault. Then the hairy offspring joins in on here and on the farm, spinning round like tcm on speed. I mean, everyone knows that a high proportion of ATD users are extremely annoyed at the farce PAFC has become and we love nothing better than tipping the grin at the antics of some of the leading personalites therein. Old Sensible had his nice little not 606 or whatever it's called forum and he'd fit in just fine and dandy on the farm. Why on earth does he need to engage with us at all ? If it's frikkin tedious for me, imagine how 'normal' posters must feel ? Can we not give him to Posty on a free transfer ? |

Furrymuff............... so do I................. but in my experience, those who complain the most and continue to squeal 'bully' when they get a bit of stick, seem intent on silencing critics of the club. It's happened to me on many occasions. It's the old, 'Get rid of Tringy, Ricks n Gob and you'll have a nice little forum' line. Thankfully, there are many more of us freaks these days. I'll carry on as normal then. |

| You're on a forum, posting about things posted on a forum and other forums. that's quite post-modern Tring. I cannot recall a single post you've made that actually refers to a man kicking a football on a pitch (that's the 'Argyle' part of ATD as opposed to the 'Talk' and the 'Democratic').
Just for clarity, can you actually find some evidence for this alleged "bully" label you seem to be defending as I can't recall ever calling you a bully. Bullying only ever works if someone is prepared to feel bullied and I personally don't feel you bully people - you grind them down in a war of forum attrition with your template style posts where you repeat the same semantic field over and over again until the recipient becomes exasperated (a little like those Aviva people you seem to dislike so much - and therein is the hypocrisy). Maybe that's what you wish to achieve. Sensiblegreeny is guilty of reacting to you (and others) who seek to simply wind him up and I do wish he'd stop as he's just chasing his tale but then again, he's his own man and I'm my own man (something you and others also fail to see).
As you can see, I'm not that bothered about what you do. I'm sure you enjoy calling someone else 'boring bloke' just to wind them up and get a reaction. Maybe you get a little OAP semi-on and a little bit of sex wee comes out of you when sit sniggering at the reaction. Given sensiblegreeny's reactive posts though, it's a bit like shooting fish in a barrel don't you think.
Ian Newell's got a point about you actually; if you fling enough mud, inevitably, some of it will stick. |

- The more I read on this forum from the anti-Brent, anti-Webb, anti-Newell posters, the more I am actually starting to believe the claims that ATD contains some very hypocritical people.
I sent a PM to someone on pasoti the other day (it wasn't a threatening one before anyone chimes in with a witty response) basically calling them out on some of the things they'd said in the Peggy thread over there and got a balanced and decent response. It was good to read as it seemed heart-felt and full of integrity. It wasn't a flat denial and it wasn't a response written in mock anger either - that's what I'd expected. It was a pretty refreshing thing to be sent from someone who's supposed to be a notorious evil-doer (according to some on here).
Next there was Chris Webb's post where I asked him to give his views of the current situation on the pitch and it was a really heart-felt, passionate post from someone who cares. If you listen to some on here, Chris Webb isn't even an Argyle supporter.
What I've read on here recently is entirely different from people who don't even attend games and even find it amusing when we lose.
Does that smack of hypocrisy? So much of what gets posted is a matter of opinion. Your opinion is that the "Pres" posted a "heart felt & passionate" post about the current plight of the club. I thought it was trite, full of the usual excuses and did nothing to quell my (and many other people's) fears that the club is in the wrong hands. You think Webb is someone "who cares". My view -supported by facts- is that he's a liar and internet bully who regards anyone who's views do not match his own as fair game for bullying tactics of the worst kind, and is perfectly content to tell lies in order to get people he doesn't agree with banned from entering into a healthy debate about PAFC. The fact that he has any sort of accredited position with PAFC sums up all that is wrong with the club at present. Real hypocrisy is not allowing other people to air an opinion because you disagree with it and you do not have the wit, intelligence or capability to refute that person's comments. |

There is no hope out of your current malaise until you see what others see. The advert was the start of the end. Very true Red. One would have thought that Aviva, who sponsor Naaaaaaaaaaaaaarich, would have used them and their bumpkin accents. Even though they were lower league at the time, they had far too much class to accept the offer. Tells you a lot about our club and superfans that they revelled in it. Like in the proverbial !

| Hmm, hypocrisy.
If a poster starts a thread where he says that he's going to be boycotting games from now on, and is then found on another forum telling all and sundry that he'll be at the game on Saturday, is that hypocrisy? Or would that poster then have to go back to his 'Boycott' post and edit it late at night, and then claim that he's never said that he's going to boycott matches. Hypocrisy? Or just pure idiocy? I can't decide. Maybe Punchdrunk could help me out there? |
