| How very dare you, Cobi! Saltash United's ground has a name: Kimberley Stadium. Mind you I'm only quibbling about that because (a)I have been to way less grounds than you and (b)I have been to more Peninsula League/Jewson South Western grounds but I can't remember their names! |

| Only watch Argyle so have been to all the OLD grounds including Arsenal at Highbury and Darlinton at Wembley Never been Old Trafford, as only played Man U once it was the three day week and I was compelled to work. Seen Bristol Rovers at Eastville, Twerton Park (Bath) and the Memorial and Brighton at the Goldstone and Withdean. Not been to any of the other "New" grounds. |

| Bit of an Aviva undertone to this thread however been to roughly 60-70 percent of league grounds minus most of those in the premiership for obvious reasons some interesting ones: Gay meadow....Shrewsbury Vetch...............Swansea Highfield Road...Coventry (very smart stadium, never knew why they moved?) Twerton Park....Bath City/Bristol Rovers Ninian Park Inverness Thistle...cannot remember what the ground was called Inverness Caledonian...Caley park?? Inverness Clachnacuddin ....??? Ibrox Old Wembley |

| Coventry moved from Highfield Road because the ball kept going into various neighbours' gardens and they wouldn't give it back. If you went up the wrong path you would find yourself in Mrs Smith's front room rather than the stand. I remember being there at the height of the fighting at football when there were running battles in the streets outside the ground. Seeing mounted police speeding up to separate warring factions right next to to the windows & doors of rows of terraced houses was an education. Ironically Coventry was the first all-seater in the country and they said that would stop crowd trouble. Fat chance! One of my most frightening matches in football was at Highfield Road - it was bad enough to stop me going for a few years.
There was no parking, no space to expand and the opportunity to provide good building land in a less attractive part of the city, Hillfields, in order to help improve it was too good to miss. |

| I know it's all a bit Aviva, but it was just interesting going through the leagues to see which grounds I'd been. When you see them all listed it does add up to a lot of miles and a lot of money following Argyle.
It also might debunk the myth that on ATD we don't actually support Argyle. I'm going to add Tiverton to the list shortly if anyone from here is venturing out for that one. |

| I've been to about half the grounds in the FL, very few Premiership ones for obvious reasons.
I'd agree that the only interesting ones are those which no longer exist.
Highfield Road, Ninian Park, Withdean, Wembley etc.
I don't take photos, have souvenirs (bar my Wembley '96 scarf), or think anything of it really. Just the odd decent day out. |

Jock, this post brought back some very good memories, my wife and I moved to a village just outside Stranraer in the early 1980's, I supported Stranraer F.C. for 8 seasons along with the usual 200 or so fellow fans, I think we all knew each other and the football was a side issue because if you check those seasons they were very lean years for the 'boys in blue' . a fantastic, friendly, great atmosphere at Stair Park, especially Hogmanay when everybody had a bottle in their pocket for a wee dram before , during and after the game. Happy days, except for the results.
You mention Maybole and Ayr, did you ever get down to Stair Park ?
Recently Stranraer have hit the hards times like Argyle, but on a smaller scale of course, but they fought back and the Club have just been promoted last week out of Division 3 courtesy of Rangers being placed in that Division. Rangers will play Stranraer's fixtures. |

| Dartford years back in the FA Cup.......won 2-1 by scoring two late goals if my memory serves me right.
Thats the only ground that no one else has mentioned from what I can see.
Been to many grounds already mentioned of course. |

| A good thirty of those stadiums, mostly Midlands downward... and 80% NOT in the last 10 years due to being fed up with being treated like some sort of ne'er do well, when I just want to pay my money and watch a game of football.
My favourite memories were the old Den, Elland Road against THE team, a Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge watching Argyle take on the Osgood/Cooke/Chopper team, and Mariner scoring at Wembley to take Ingerland through. And thorougly enjoyed the Twerton weekends much later. Favourite non Argyle game was seeing Greavsie at White Hart Lane, and favourite European experience was a Champions League game Steau Bucharest v Benfica.. what a strange experience that was.... all those uniforms and large Soviet block hats.
How about what games any of us have actually played at League grounds.
I've played at Home Park Plainmoor Roker Park St James Ashton Gate Twerton The Home Park surface one game was the best I've ever eperienced anywhere ...... the worst surface ....Roker Park ..... an absolute coalfield. |

| But it was wet - very very wet - at Roker Park. The only pitch I had played on where the crossbar was elliptical so as to allow the rain to drip off more easily.

| Has anyone mentioned Kettering Town?
(I think they now play at the old Rushden & Diamonds ground. I used to go there fairly regularly for a season. A small, neat place that was really friendly. And they had the only 'seconds' Doc Martin's shop in the country). |

I wanted to take the ferry over to Ireland but the other half doesn't like boats. |

Jock, a lovely part of the World, Galloway still remains one of our favourite places to live. I used to go shopping on the ferries your other half doesn't like to the superb Belfast shopping Centre where ' tin hat on' had a different meaning in the early 80's. A day trip over the short-sea crossing was always 'interesting'.
Always very good derby matches between Stranraer and Ayr, no prisoners taken in those days. Although an Argyle supporter for over 50 years I do have a soft spot for Stranraer F.C. |
