| 'Rose Marie' - Slim Whitman .... I have been known to sing that one! Wonderful song! One of the very few C&W songs I like.
When I was born there was no such thing as a number one. In fact there were still 78's available.
The main contender for the honour of number 1 when I was born would be Frankie Lane. |

Never even fookin' heard of it. I sing that one as well - but it's easy as it's only got one simple verse. |

Ha, after much research it seems I popped out on the day Frankie Laine's "I believe" by Guy Mitchell with "Look at that Girl". Wiki tells me he suffered with alcoholism and had four wives, including a Playboy playmate. Good lad! Frankie Laine knocked him off after six weeks, with "Hey Joe". Interesting eh. The Beatles "From me to you" was my first purchase. |

England 1970 WC song is not so bad.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcE86JmIN3E Best football song ever!
It was piss pantsingly funny watching Scotland in that tournament though,Jock. Almost worth the pain of England not qualifying for the second time in a row!
Great goal by wee Archie though.Good job he didn't do it against us in the FA cup QF against Derby. My Dad almost went over to Argentina. He worked a second job as a barman to get the money and had his itineray all worked out. Regulars in the pub kept putting change into his World Cup fund bottle, a huge whisky bottle kept on the bar with all his wages in it and spare change people put in. Somebody broke into the pub and stole it though He went to the Scotland v Wales game at Anfield where Scotland qualified. He had no ticket, hardly any money and hitch hiked from Truro to Liverpool. The trucker who gave him a lift most of the way also put him up for the night, much to the annoyance of the truckers wife. He told me some great stories about the police stopping fans and confiscating all alcohol outside the ground, and how groups of Jocks would start fighting amongst themselves as a distraction, and when the coppers went to stop the fight, dozens of Jocks appeared from nowhere and helped themselves to this huge skip thing that was full of confiscated booze. This was then thrown up to their mates waiting inside the ground. Some Scotland fans were using grappling hooks to climb the walls to get in and whatever the official attendance was, he said you could easily add on a couple of thousand extra as they were jumping over turnstiles en masse to get in. I remember watching the Peru game with him, I think it was really late at night or early hours of the morning, but I also seem to remember the Holland game being early evening so that doesn't make sense, and it all started so well until Cubillas got a free-kick! I think Don Masson missed a penalty, or maybe Bruce Rioch, and Dad went on about him being born in England and that's why he missed. He consumed so much alcohol he became totally pissed off with the whole thing and sent me upstairs Another time watching Scotland v England and England were hammering us, my Dad got narky with my mum because she had the washing machine on in the kitchen and this was why Scotland were losing He ended up pulling the washing machine out, water spraying everywhere, and trying to pick it up to throw it out of the window like the Big Chief in One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest Oh how we laughed. |

| I'm not prepared to say what was number one when I was born on the grounds that I might incriminate myself.
Of course, it should have been You're a Lady by Peter Skellern, since that's the best song ever. But it wasn't. |
