Truro City Football Club is being chased for debts of more than £700,000.

The drama unfolded in London this morning as lawyers representing four companies appeared at the High Court to claim the debts.

The club appeared in court for a winding-up order from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs. The tax debt, believed to be in the region of £51,000, was dismissed which almost certainly means it has been paid.

But three lawyers representing four other companies applied to be "substituted" as petitioners in the case, claiming total debts of more than £700,000.

Registrar Derrett ordered that the company claiming the largest debt - Tiger Commercial (Truro) Ltd, which claims it is owed £645,000 - could take over the petition.

As Lord Acton (alledgedly) said:

"Power corrupts, & absolute power corrupts absolutely"

The next line isn't so widely quoted:

"Nearly all great men are bad men".

Not that I'm saying the twit from Truro's a great man, mind.

Who cares any more about that game player ?
I've never been a fan of the age old excuse 'absolute power corrupts absolutely' routine.
It's just another old rulers' tale designed to take the guilt out of the job and avoid all blame, and a direct insult to the downtrodden murdered masses who would supposedly do no better given the situation. To me, the absolutely corrupt are just bonkers, and were always heading that way.

I prefer the more realistic :-

"The corrupt actively seek power, some get it, most don't, thankfully"

I do believe there are plenty of examples out there of human beings having absolute power in their particular environs, and not abusing it in the slightest.

From 2009

Whilst Penz makes the point about rich men, it does provide the opportunity for entertainment when cronies fall out and the knives come out. Although it doesn't seem to be online yet, this weeks Cornish Guardian has a bit more background about this.

Chris Lingard, Managing Partner of Follett Stock and Heaney "look set for a High Court showdown", they've "locked horns" after CL was previously KH's spokesman.

KH said the claim "had come out of the blue".

CL was unavailable for comment.

More fun to come here yet I think.
