| First trial tonight.
Bloody cool looking piece of kit which cooks chips in a spoonful of oil. Only downside is they take 45 minutes. |

Did you have some sort of back door desire for no fat, but loads of chips ? It all sounds like someone is still selling the alchemist's dream.... or an igenious way of selling something at a premium that boils potatoes. Are you a gadget guy who can't resist it ? |

A long time ago, I used to run a vegetarian/wholefood cafe in the city along with two partners. Believe me, our discussions on whether we should employ a microwave were just as feisty as the present stuff here. It's how us humans sort out our desires. Needless to say the microwave wasn't employed, although I now use one at home on occasion. Am I sad about that ? possibly .... but the 6 grand Aga wasn't an option. I'm installing a second hand £50 wood burner from next week, should do chips in 5 minutes. |

My lovely wife did, something about being 47, eating more healthily. I wasn't listening properly. Anyway. I can report that the chips are marvelous and only 3% fat apparently. Whatever that means. |

| But does this gadget still make the place stink for days?
Not that I'd buy one. My approach to chips is to only eat OPs. |

| Andy, about half a dozen! No Peggy, no smell at all, quite amazing. Only got it because we have been saving (say it quietly) Tesco vouchers and got them doubled up. I think it finished up being reduced down from £180 retail to about £40 with the vouchers. £180 for a chip pan!! |

| If you're going to buy something that retails at that sort of price just to cook sodding chips, can I point you in the direction of Knecht's contribution to this thread: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]If you're going to do it, best do it properly - 45 minutes to cook chips? That's fast food compared to Heston's recipe.... |

| Because they taste like chip and are really healthy and not some ponced up potatoes. |

| That Heston's recipe is beyond crazy. Who the hell is going to first par boil, place in freezer and gawd knows what else just for a plate of bleedin chips. Good old Maris Piper and a half decent sunflower oil will just fine in next to no time at all thank you, even if they do stink. |
