When Penning a C.V Empty
PostSubject: When Penning a C.V   When Penning a C.V EmptyTue May 08, 2012 11:23 am

Is it wise to mention travelling?

I mean, I could try to dress it up as a career break perhaps? I can't exactly avoid it, as the last role I had was in Brisbane, previous to that I haven't worked since September. Any advice?

I hate writing these things. I have to intentionally dumb myself down, lest I appear a trifle too lucid for whichever ape in recruitment gets to vet the applications.

Is anyone here an ape in recruitment who could get me a half decent job? I'm on the verge of tweeting Bunney fcol.

Any employer who wouldn't recognise the value of travelling/career breaks I wouldn't want to work for - especially if it followed the end of a contract rather than you just giving up a job. It shows an independence of thought, a flexibility and an ability to make the best of opportunities. You might have to face the question in interview about whether you intend to do this again but an answer that stresses the positives rather than a perceived fecklessness ought to deal with it. But, as I said, any employer that couldn't see the positives I wouldn't want to work for.

Quite right knecht, but with a slight proviso that you simply didn't throw all your teddies out of the window one day and buy a ticket to Sydney half an hour later.

As an employer, I would like to see a level of commitment from any potential new employee, rather than 'it's Thursday, I think I'll feck off to Oz'

When penning a CV...just do what everybody else does...be , er, creative.

Anyway a man of your undoubted talents won't have any problems finding a niche position.

I believe it was a 'gap year' Mock, so big big it up as a taste of life and work abroad.

I take it you got a degree ?

One of our sons, our only graduate thus far from Loughborough/Bournemouth, was unable to find any employment other than call centre type work. By moving to Cyprus with us he has now found a job in some sort of online trading/ currency market business that will enable him to work virtually anywhere in the world.
These days it is even more the case of who you know, as without experience it is very difficult to get in anywhere.

I'm going to say that I was paid to go over there as a model.

I set up my linkedin last week.

I'm not particularly sure I'm yet at a career level where it will be too useful, but I'll add bits in and see what happens I guess.

Mock
You'll also see how others structure their work experience etc. There's a lot of good groups and advice around. Worth taking a browse through for an hour or so.
