MEN'S FIRST TEAM

2023/24 Argyle Award Winners Announced

Argyle's Player of the Season, Evergreen Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season for 2023/24 have been announced.

Morgan Whittaker has been named as the Argyle Player of the Season.

Morgan, 23, returned to Home Park in the summer, having impressed during a loan spell in the Greens’ promotion season of 2022/23. This time becoming a permanent Pilgrim, Whittaker scored 20 goals during the campaign, 19 of which in the league. Whittaker was also named in the EFL’s Sky Bet Championship Team of the Season.

Morgan won the accolade with 47% of the vote. In second place was Lewis Gibson with 17%. Adam Randell, with 7%, was third.

Morgan was also victorious in the voting for Evergreen Player of the Season.

"As a player, that's the award you want for the season," Whittaker told Argyle TV. "To be recognised for what you've done for the season, it means a lot.

"It's got to be my best [season]. The start of last season, I didn't think that would be topped so quickly. I'm very proud of myself."

The Argyle Young Player of the Season is Ashley Phillips. Signed in January, on loan from Tottenham Hotspur, 18-year-old central defender Ashley made 20 appearances, impressing with his maturity and physical presence in the Argyle backline.

Phillips earned 46% of the Green Army’s votes, just ahead of Freddie Issaka, with 39%.

"I've had a really good time here," said Phillips. "It's definitely the highest point of my career, being able to come here and play games.

"I can't thank [Argyle] enough for trusting me and giving me the minutes I need.

"I'm so happy for the fans, and this club, that they get another season in the Championship."
